My male friends who've seen her would agree with you - half of them are now in love. Also, I remember that penguin joke - - it seems to be one of her favorites. "Why do penguins walk softly?" "Because they can't walk, hardly". Pretty bad, huh? But the way she tells it it's actually funny. I've heard lots of people remark that her way of acting goofy and funny on stage brings irony to her songs and I totally agree. It makes them all the more poignant. So she said she'll be touring the States later this year? Doh! I'm going to be gone too! Oh well... For Tim, and anyone else who's interested, here's my take on the Best Bit tab. It's as close as I could get it from watching her fingers and listening to the EP. Let me know if you've got something different! Capo on the 2nd fret (incidentally, this is something I love about Beth - she almost always capo's it up, which puts it right in my range! yay!) {this is tabbed assuming the capo is fret zero} - ------------------------------------- - -----3---------3------3--------3----- - -----2---------0------2--------0----- - --0-----0h2-------0-0----0h2--------- - ------------3----------------3------- - ------------------------------------- 1 2 3 4 And I just repeat that over and over throughout. Basically the chords are D and C9 - I think that's what it's called - whatever this is: - -0- - -3- - -0- - -2- - -3- - -x- And that's it! So today I was at the YMCA working out on the treadmill, happily listening to an Emm Gryner tape, reading a teen magazine, when I happen to be look up at the TV-on VH1, they were showing the video for Stolen Car! I didn't know she had a video...have I missed this discussion, or is this news?? Its an interesting video, I only saw the end though...They will probably play it again soon, it was on the "women first" show, around..10:15, I think. The Stolen Car video has been on M2 for a while but I think VH1 just recently started showing it. She was also on MTV's 120 minutes, I think that was back in May - I taped it, so if anyone wants a copy just let me know! It's so great to see Beth becoming more and more successful, because that means that more and more people get to hear her music -- and that's GOT to make the world a better place! :) Yep, in addition to being a Beth addict, I am also one of Friends. Has anyone seen them who can tell me what they're like? 120 Minutes showed the "Best Bit" video a couple of times. It's set around Beth in a cowboy hat playing and singing in a redneck bar, if memory serves. During the Beth interview on 120 last month they played a snippet of SCYN. It was shot in the Mojave Desert in California, as I recall. Hope this helps! Has anyone seen them who can tell me what they're like? Hello. I actually have a copy of the Best Bit vid - it's basically Beth on the side of this long, dusty road trying to hitch a lift, and she eventually gets one by hitching up her dress a bit. It's in a low-slung red car with someone dressed as the devil. Then (rather abruptly, I thought) she goes into this bar where she's also? playing on stage (in a cowboy hat). That makes it sound incredibly surreal (it is) and rather rubbish (it's not - - it's great). There's also a vid to She Cries Your Name, but it's not as interesting. Cheers, Nick. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 15:33:08 +0900 From: *octagonal* Subject: Re: Best Bit >Let me know >if you've got something different! I have actaully got something different. But i like your way much better. The way I have been playing it has an odd story behind it. I was just stuffing around trying to make something up on the guitar and came up with this bar that sounded great. So I put it on tape... Months later I bought Central Reservation (the australiasian version with best bits & precious maybe) and heard Best Bits (for the first time) and flipped out when I realised it was exactly like the bit i had put on tape. It was almost like I channelled Beth! Like I was destined to be a Beth lover just months later! Anyway, my way of doing it does not use a Capo. As a result it doesn't sound as good. But it sounded spot on until I saw your version with the Capo on 2. My version would be good if you were lost in the jungle with no Capo. anyhoooo here 'tis: intro+verse: E9 D9 - -------------0---------------------0------------ - -------------7---------------------5------------ - ------------------------------------------------- - -------------------- 6 \ 4----------------4------ - ----7-------------------5----------------------- - ------------------------------------------------- 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + chorus: whack away with normal E & D for 8 bars. > >Capo on the 2nd fret (incidentally, this is something I love about Beth - >she almost always capo's it up, which puts it right in my range! yay!) > >{this is tabbed assuming the capo is fret zero} >------------------------------------- >-----3---------3------3--------3----- >-----2---------0------2--------0----- >--0-----0h2-------0-0----0h2--------- >------------3----------------3------- >------------------------------------- > 1 2 3 4 > >And I just repeat that over and over throughout. >Basically the chords are D and C9 - I think that's what it's called - >whatever this is: > >-0- >-3- >-0- >-2- >-3- >-x- > >And that's it! > >Peace, >~Chelsea "There's no point turning to some tarot-card wielding, chakra realigning, anti-oxidant-taking self-help guru to solve your existential angst, because they're not feeling fabulous either ...
