Feel to believe is a prime candidate, I cried the first 5 times I listened to it. Still do regularly now :-) Beth is so emotional, in such a subtle yet deep way, that's why we buy her album's isn't it? ;-) > > 1. What was the first Beth song you heard? > > 2. (a) Best bit - I actually saw the video on Top of the Pops, and so I bought a couple of singles, one of which was: (b) Touch me with your love - and then the album version, specifically that dreamy, breathy introduction, blew me away. (c) How far (is this the title? I never read the album covers!) - but this is the one that gets me, just for the shift into: "so roll on blue skies, roll over grey, just roll away". Atlanta's WNNX, while mostly a crappy station, sometimes plays some good stuff. They played the heck out of "Stolen Car" last year. >2. What Beth song made you into a fan? Not a song, a line: the way she sings "Every day is just like the day before" on "Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine" hit me in the stomach like a runaway truck and made me a fan for life. >3. What Beth song holds the most emotional resonance for you? A really good friend, and fellow Beth fan, died late last year, so "Pass in Time" has meant quite a lot to me during the last several months. "DRAT! I guess So Far later confirms my faith in her. >3. What Beth song holds the most emotional resonance for you? Central Reservation. Let's just say it got me thru' difficult times. Hi: Can't really remember the first song, since I bought the CD on a whim and then listened to it. It was Tangent that reached out and grabbed me off TP. It spoke exactly to an experience I was in the middle of and that song help me sort all of it out and understand what was happening to me. I wonder if song writers really know how powerful their songs can be in the life of their listeners. Thank you Beth for the clarity. Again, I think it would be Tangent and Galaxy of Emptiness that really made me a devotee. Like many of you, If I had Never see the Sunshine, Tangent, Stolen Car but in every song I have been able to find an emotional piece of myself...this is her gift to all of us. sherry - -----Original Message----- From: dorian01@amazed.co.uk [mailto:dorian01@amazed.co.uk] Sent: Tuesday, May 23, 2000 7:44 PM To: trailer-park@smoe.org Subject: It's so slow! I think that is what makes music such a beautiful experience. It gets into our soul and helps create and move, making us grow and move to the next level. I'm sure the musicians are aware of this, as that is exactly what they are doing themselves....moving to their own personal, next level of progression. Have you heard of the group, Claire Voyant? Not one particular song, but many. I saw her live before I had ever heard (of) her and there were huge technical problems, but she coped so calmly and sung so beautifully, that the next day I bought everything I could get. 2. The next day, listening to Trailer Park...I knew that her songs would be with me forever. 3. Pass In Time. Without a doubt the most moving. Not particularly for any personal reasons...but because it is such an open expression of the way Beth feels about life, her mother and her childhood. I apologize in advance for the length but it has been slow! And, Beth has remained in my thoughts........ 1) First song I heard by Beth was She Cries Your Name on 103.1 WRNR in Annapolis, MD.......it was funny I thought it was such a cool song but wondered why other stations weren't playing it. I continued to listen to the station as they played more of TP and couldn't figure out why it was the only "local" station playing Beth. 2) I guess the song that really hooked me once and for all was "How Far" Nick ure right......All I remember was the country feel to it as she slips into the "Roll on Blue skies, Roll on gray just roll away......" It floored me and I just replayed it over and over and just jammed to that special outro. I don't like country music but she created such a great song with "How Far" that I found myself loving it! 3) As for my favorite song by Beth I guess "Stolen Car" takes the cake. It's just sooooo Beth and I love it.........I also really love "Galaxy of Emptiness" and as a sentimental one I get weak when I hear "Whenever" that just beautiful.. Sorry for the length but it was just what was needed on this board. What was the first Beth song you heard? i first heard *of* beth before hearing her. i was working at HITS magazine in LA - summer '97. i kept seeing her name because i had to enter radio station playlists into their computer system in order to compile charts of airplay for certain formats. "she cries your name" was getting a lot of play on AAA stations. and a lot of people i worked with really liked her. i don't think i actually *heard* SCYN until a few months later, when i was working at WXPN in philadelphia (big props go out to this amazing station, as anyone on the list who lives near philly will attest). they used to play the hell out of the song. i also got a promo copy of best bit while working there - my first beth cd. of course i loved it. :) >2. What Beth song made you into a fan? i was instantly a fan once i got best bit, but don't think i was truly hooked until i bought central res shortly after it came out. i guess the song that grabbed me the most immediately was pass in time - her voice so beautiful, so filled with emotion. >3. What Beth song holds the most emotional resonance for you? it's hard to pinpoint one. touch me with your love has a lot of meaning for me. but first time i heard i wish i never saw the sunshine was when i saw her play it live last year (didn't get TP till after that) and immediately fell in love with how beautiful and yet sad it is. i had to hold myself back from crying. and that's my favorite on the album. that's allll. dana ------------------------------ End of trailer-park-digest V1 #79 *********************************
