As the name implies, Chan Marshall's latest is composed entirely of other songwriters' compositions. It's a pretty stark record (by design) but Chan's voice is amazing and bears a passing resemblance to Beth's. The cover of "...Satisfaction" is amazing and alone worth the price of admission. Good-quality MPEG samples of each track are available on CDNOW's site at: http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=648236897/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album. html/artistid=CAT+POWER/itemid=1158676 or just use the search facility to locate it on your own if you don't feel like stitching together long URLs. :) Take care, Chris ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2000 23:06:08 -0500 From: dana wagner Subject: Re: new music suggestions another recent discovery of mine, and someone i'd suggest to you all, would be leslie feist. she actually just goes by feist. her album, "monarch," is amazing - and has a twinge of bethness. :) i'll be hosting a living room concert with her and sarah slean next monday at my place in philly. anyone who wants to drop by and check the two of them out is welcome. if interested, drop me a line and i'll get you directions to my house. it's monday, the 27th, at 7pm. $10 admission. they'll both also be playing at the point in bryn mawr, PA (near philly) on march 30. and i echo andrea 1000 times.... emm gryner is also my favorite singer so if you haven't heard her yet, what are you waiting for? go, go, buy science fair! it's breathtaking. to quote one of emm's recent journals: "i listened to beth this weekend because i know trailer park inside out and sometimes it's good to listen to familiar music." dana ------------------------------ End of trailer-park-digest V1 #39 *********************************
