Not that I'd get to see her, the Beck concert in the Netherlands is sold out! :-( Maybe next time... I can't stress the talent of Canadian EMM GRYNER enough...she's amazing, and a fellow worshipper of Beth, so I'm sure you'll be able to hear a little of her influences. She's one of those artists who keep evolving. I recently saw her perform with a new band of sorts, Winnipeg's Transistor, Sound and Lighting Co. With them, there was a new electronic-ish, heavier bass sound so I wouldn't be surprised if the new album she's working on is influenced by this. There are some great real audio clips of the show at http://www.radiosonic.com/cmw2000/friday/emm/emm1.html Please, please listen to song 3 aka "Parting Song"...it's her latest, and perhaps one of the greatest and song 7 aka "Boy Races" reminds me of Beth's "Feel to Believe" Visit http://www.emmgryner.com for more info, but it's been hacked ...until it's fixed http://home.istar.ca/~andyc/me/emm-gallery.htm is my Emm gallery :) IVANA SANTILLI and Emm are by far my favourite musicians, but they are by far very different. Emm's much more like Beth, so not everyone on this list may appreciate Ivana. However, if you're into a GOOD funky blend of soul/latin/r&b/jazz then Ivana's album, "Brown" is for you. More important than the album however is seeing her and her amazing band play. Check my site http://home.iSTAR.ca/~andyc/ivana/ and the inferior official site http://cystane.com/ivana/intro.html *LOL* :-P Others I've been listening to: Air, Stereophonics, Luscious Jackson, Massive Attack... - - signing off again...andrea just give me a beer, and give me a bed chase the demons out of my head play me a song and sing me to sleep and meet me in the middle of my dreams ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Mar 2000 12:08:05 EST From: "Grant Goggans" Subject: Beth in Westchester County? >Date: Wed, 15 Mar 2000 11:12:18 -0800 >From: Elizabeth Hahn >Subject: Beth in Westchester County? >I can't wait for some new Beth music or another solo tour. >I've been keeping busy going to Morrissey shows over the >past few weeks. Great lyrics, good indie stuff. Oh, man, I just discovered the Magnetic Fields myself. Album 88 in Atlanta did a 2-hour show of Stephin Merritt stuff last month and I was totally gobsmacked. "The Desperate Things You Made Me Do" hit me on about ten levels. One of those "Ahhhh! That's my life!" songs. If you like the Fields, you may want to try Merritt's other projects, like Future Bible Heroes and the 6ths. The official site is http://www.avalon.net/~stripe/mf/welcome.html. There's also a lot of really great and similar material coming out of Athens these days. If you like Merritt, you'd probably like Elf Power, and possibly the Olivia Tremor Control and Japancakes. I'm new so I'd better introduce myself before anything. My name is Janell, I'm 21 and I love Beth. Also, I'm from Mexico. I would love to hear some of your recomendations and would love you even more If you could make Mp3 of the girls (and groups) you mentioned as being similar to Beth's "electronica" side. Here is really difficult to find any decent music but isn't impossible, If I like the stuff you just recomended I promise to buy the Cd's :) I'm gonna give you all some space so EVERYONE that wants the songs can go and download them. Could you make at least one of every artist? GREAT! Upload them to: http://www.idrive.com/jdelarosa in the Dropbox folder. As soon as I receive something, I will post the list the info so all of you out there can go and listen to them. Thanks a lot :) Later Janell PS: Excuse my english! ===== Janell "The best slave does not need to be beaten She beats herself"- Erica Jong __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
