Hi all. Just a quick question for you New Yorkers. A guy I met at a Moz show a couple of weeks back said that he'd seen an ad for a Beth Orton show coming up somewhere in Westchester County. Does anyone have any info on this? I can't find any anywhere. Of course, he had no date or venue info for me. It could be a wild goose chase. I can't wait for some new Beth music or another solo tour. I've been keeping busy going to Morrissey shows over the past few weeks. (I met the band, but not the Man. They were nice chaps.) Has anyone got any new music suggestions? My friend just turned me on to Magnetic Fields and The Wedding Present. Great lyrics, good indie stuff. I am listening to Moby's "Play" Really good stuff: similar to: DJ Shadow, Fat Boy Slim, Portishead, Massive Attack, Bjork's Debut, Stereolab, even some George Michael ! The man is a good thief ! Here is a review, I think the CD is better than the review would lead you to believe: http://allmusic.com/cg/x.dll?p=amg&sql=A417226 > -----Original Message----- > From: Elizabeth Hahn [SMTP:justinia@xoommail.com] > Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2000 2:12 PM > To: trailer-park@smoe.org > Subject: Beth in Westchester County? > > Hi all. Okay, I'll bite! If you like the electronica side of Beth, I recommend Emiliana Torrini. Check out sound samples at my buddy Lina's Emiliana page at http://emiliana.nu/listen.htm . I liked her so much I started a mailing list for her! On the folkie side, check out Kathryn Williams. No sound clips online that I know of (I bought her mini-LP "Dog Leap Stairs" and the "Fade" EP on spec) but you can find reviews at: (Kathryn live) http://www.nme.com/reviews/reviews/19990420121018reviews.html (Dog Leap Stairs) http://www.nme.com/reviews/reviews/19990316111812reviews.html (Fade EP) http://www.nme.com/reviews/reviews/singles201199.html (anti-Beth comment alert :) And if your palate extends through electronica, folk, piano balladry and flat-out rock, check out the lovely and talented Astrid Williamson at http://www.sirius.com/~zorg/astrid/home.html . Again, I bought her stuff on spec and fell in love with it immediately! There's a nice interview with her in the current "The Big Takeover" (Joe Strummer on the cover; info at http://www.thebigtakeover.com .) Any of you familiar with Maria McKee? I can recommend her 3 albums, see http://www.mariamckee.com During the next few days, Beth is performing here in Sweden and Denmark 2 nights with Beck and 2 shows of her own. And it suddenly looks like I can't attend any of these shows :( /Markku (Quos) - -- Markku Peltonen mailto:markku.peltonen@medfak.gu.se Bootleg trading: http://redrival.com/quoscdr/ ------------------------------ End of trailer-park-digest V1 #35 *********************************
