The Swimming Hour- my review:
Two Way Action is an awesome, kickass song. Very rock oriented. I was weary 
of the addition of Nora, but she does not sing solo, just with Andrew, and 
she is far from obtrusive. By the way, does anybody have any info. on what a 
mando-strat is? I'm assuming some kind of electrified mandolin. 
Core and Rind... eh... not my thing. It's ok, but I usually skip over it. Not 
totally lost, but for the most part, the dark edge has been removed from the 
BOF's work. It doesn't have a negative effect, I just don't care for the 
particular style of the song, which is kinda '60s boogie/doo-wop kinda stuff.
Why? - "old school" BOF, baby. Funny, too.
11:11- this song reminds me a bit of Belle and Sebastian. Is Andrew lactose 
intolerant or something? His fear of milk in this song is quite odd. Nice 
duet work between Nora and Andrew, and awesome drumming from Kevin. There is 
definitely a lot more of him on this album. Is that Andrew who sings the 
opening? I thought maybe it was Pat Sansone, it sounds too high to be him, 
and too male to be Nora.
Case in Point- another older sounding number, with a tinge of Latin. This 
song is so cool. I also think the lyrics refer to Andrew's "embrace of 
production." 
Too Long- WHEE! Country tune, but with a tuba! I am not a huge country fan, 
but I love this song. It's so bouncy and the piano adds a lot. Just a lot of 
fun.
Way out West- I saw Andrew do this in an accoustic set with Colin almost two 
years ago. I can't remember how much it changed or stayed the same, but the 
cool chain effects are funny. Definitely a song that moves forward.
Waiting To Talk- this, in addition to headsoak, is more of the orchestral 
folk kinda stuff on the album. There's a cool phonograph opening on this 
track. 
Fatal Flower Garden- Epic. A lot of these songs seem so dramatic, it's an 
interesting change.
Satisfied- I'm not a huge fan of this one.. more of the '60s blues sound, 
with How Indiscreet. Both are ok, but not the best I've heard from BOF.
Headsoak- neat whistling and piano throughout. Another folky, orchestral 
number. The vocal duet between Andrew and Nora is beautiful here.
How Indiscreet- see Satisfied... but don't miss Kevin's drumming here and 
Andrew's distorted violin. To be honest, it reminds me of She Got the Apples 
from Control Freak, but also like a Doors' song with the breakdown of 
keyboard and guitars. 
Dear Old Greenland- this also sounds like a '60s number, but in a different 
way. The back up ladies and piano give it a feel and sound like you'd hear on 
a radio station that plays Ray Price and Elvis.

There's the rundown of tunes, but my overall opinion of this album is that it 
kicks ass. I've been craving something with more of a solid, hard beat 
lately, and it appears that all of my favorite musicians (BOF, Tom) are now 
putting out more rock oriented things. I am going to see the band on Sunday, 
it will be interesting to see if they add any new spins on older material. 
Anyone seen them on this tour yet?
