But i have my copy of Samsara to cuddle up next to on cold nights, and that gets me through. Seriously, i don't know if anyone agrees with me or not, (and i know i've said this before) but Samsara is SO much better than Bedlam Ballroom. Tom isn't afraid to take some risks, just listen to all the different styles he goes through in the one album. You have a song with just bagpipes, one that's straight up twangy old-school country, one that is asian oriented, one with just pipe organ, and it goes on and on and on. That is an amazing album! It even goes above HOT and Perennial Favorites in my book, (but not behind The Inevitable, which personally i think is the best Zippers album, that's probably going to step on some toes as well, sorry about that). Anyway, i'm not saying Bedlam Ballroom is horrible, but between the amazing Andrew Bird, the ever incredible Kevin O'Donnell, and the mezmerizing Thomas Maxwell, Bedlam is just kind of being pushed out of my lime light. joshua _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I liked it the first time I heard it. But Zippers albums aways need to grow on me what with all their little moods and nuances. And the one that took the longest turned out to be my favorite, Christmas Caravan. Of course, sophomore efforts are notorious for not living up to their predecesors, so it'll be interesting to see how Tom's next album fares... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? While you may not cotton to the new CD, to dismiss all of SNZ's music since "The Inevitable…" is silly and ignorant. In point of fact, I too miss the inspired edginess Tom and Ken contributed, but the new incarnation sounds sweet in other ways, not least of which is Kat's smooth singing. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 17:26:25 EDT From: Woimboid@aol.com Subject: Re: I think... im sorry, but her voice is quite annoying.. In fact "Inevitable" is one of my favorite cds. It is beautifully produced and wonderfully written, but as of now they stink. they really stink, and i am not going to un critical of them just because they are really talented. They should have broken up, or at least re named themselves and started anew. Yet, despite the many changes they chose to stay the SNZ, and for, i suppose, economic reasons. In case i ever want to quit the mailing list, how do i do so? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 19:12:08 -0700 (PDT) From: edward eichelberger Subject: Re: I think... Why should the Squirrel Nut Zippers (or any band for that matter) go hungry just so you respect them? One thing that pisses me off more than anything is somebody saying that a band "sold out". Do you think The Beatles sold out when they stopped playing British pop? Do you know what would have become of The Beatles if they hadn't? Look at Herman's Hermits. I respect other peoples opinions to a point, but you really need to get over yourself. And how the hell did you even become a fan of any Zipper's albums? I've heard Katharine called a lot of things, but you're the first I've ever heard that called her annoying... - --- Woimboid@aol.com wrote: > im sorry, but her voice is quite annoying.. I'm just getting home from the Philly show (yeah, its Friday already, but I didn't have access to a computer there) and I must say, the Zippers sound as good as ever. I got a copy of both setlists (Hobex and SNZ) and if anyone would like them, let me know and I'll type em in. I don't want to ruin it for anyone. Greg from Hobex is a really cool guy. He took me backstage for a bit right before the Zippers went on and they were tuning up, which was really cool. But, when they came out to play, I was standing right by the steps in the TLA where you can get backstage, talking to Greg, and they walked right down in front of me. They came out into the audience and played like a marching band, with Jimbo leading shaking this stick thingy with bell type things on it (so specific, eh?) and he stopped right in front of me and said something which I couldn't make out over the music, and slapped my hand. This concert was amazing. They sounded better than ever. There seemed to be much more energy within the band this time. Tim and Je were dancing around all over, and at one point, Chris got so overzealous, he launched a drum into the air by accident and it broke in half. I almost got it, but someone got to it before me. Damn. Oh, and Reese didn't play with them. It was that same guy from the Regis show...they kept saying his name, but once again, not being able to hear over music in the front row. And, if you haven't heard Hobex, you must. They really sounded good, again. But I got the story from Greg that Andy (their bass player) fell off the stage two nights before and sprained his ankle badly. What a trooper. That's all from me... ~~G GEorGE ------------------------------ End of the-landing-digest V3 #153 *********************************
