The new guys (tim, Dave and Reece) are amazing soloists. Je has gotten better at it, too. when i saw the band in December, it looked like Dave Wright was playing it lo-key, letting Jim have all the glory. but now that they've been together almost a year, Dave might be coming out more and showing his true showmanship (that raunchy finesse he has when playing with Countdown Quartet. Makes me swoon!!) With his own band, he can equal tom's stage presence. I don't know if he will do it with SNZ< but it's worth checking out. Also, reece Gray is really animated when he plays piano. when they actually give him a shot to solo, or play on a stage big enought hat he doesn't have to be in the shadows, he's really great to watch. I've seen him in a small bar with his own band, Sideways Alley Jass Band, and he's great. like a big doll made out of rubber bands. And like i said, Tim Smith is an all-around wonderful musician. he can play flute! his soos are dead-on. and i've seen him shake his booty. he's got rhythm! :) So anyway, i don't want to press you to spend the money if you don't have it, but you might change your mind about the "New Zippers" if you are reminded how great they are live. Jess ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Oct 2000 23:22:09 -0400 From: Jessica Brandt Subject: more news Even though Eric, the "so far so amicable" SNZ webmaster, is off being just married, some new news has made it onto www.snzippers.com since i last posted about it. You'll have to go see for yourselves. They'll be on conan NOVEMBER 3. There's some new east coast and west coast tour stops, and they'll be playing with Dirty Dozen, Bio Ritmo and charlie hunter. Also, according to the site, tickets are going to be hella-cheap! (is that good, Daniel?) also, SNZ willb e in the annual new york halloween parade (i'm ASSUMING on halloween) in their own float and everything! Says it'll be on Sci-fi channel and USA< and it'll br broadcast more than a few times. Hopefully, the newsletter we all signed up for (right?) will remind us of such things. On a side note, i forgot to announce to everyone that Kenny says: "Now, on to the baby, little Evelyn Grace Maxwell was born one month ago on Friday (ah, happy b day) and she and Mel and Tom are all good, aside from some sleep deprivation weeks 2 to 3. It's amazing what the body can do when nature forces you. So far, so good. I can't tell who she looks like, but Tom's mom is a definate influence. I'll send a pic if I can fanagle one out of him." The date on that birth, i believe, was August 15. Sorry i didn't tell y'all earlier. i didn't find out myself until Sept. 15, and by then it was old news. I'm not going to collect $$ for flowers since there was that Jim and Kat flower fiasco :) But you can EASILY reach tom and Mel at: tom@tommaxwell.com Easy to remember, eh? Send them a cute animated card or just a "congrats! Sorry jessica is a bum and forgot to tell us a lot earlier!" I'm working on a review of the new album for The Shrub, so when i get that up, i'll tell everyone. Also, I am going to talk to the people at bowloffire.com about taking over the BOF live archive. i will email everyone who sent me pics for that (if i can still get them from xoom!!!) and make sure they agree to me sending the pics over to the band. hopefully you won't mind, right? One more thing..Clay, if you're reading this.... any reaction to not being asked to ECD this new album? Jess ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Oct 2000 01:10:21 EDT From: BlowRedBlow@aol.com Subject: Re: more news on a note about Tom, check out his site... new news, annoucing his daughter and a NEW ALBUM, due out for March, which is his projected time. He wrote a nice post. I can't wait. On another note, the new album is definitely different. But there is still some funky shit on there, definitely enjoyable. However, I am a little disappointed in the lack of Andrew Bird. Highlights include: Bedbugs, It All Depends (an awesome tune), and Do What?. Definitely not what you've heard before. However, I am worried. There are quite a few people who already got the album from Napster. This could be a bad thing, considering marginal fans will probably not buy the real thing. Also, after hearing from Andrew, their new album is due out sometime in February or shortly thereafter. Looks like we've got a nice lineup coming up: The Q6 put theirs out, The Zippers, BOF, Tom, and isn't BFF supposed to be in there somewhere?? - -Mike ------------------------------ End of the-landing-digest V3 #140 *********************************
