Nobody was. Louis was a genius. He was the greatest and most influential musicain in all of jazz. He invented the solo, and is the epitome of jazz. And he was also the greatesttrumpet player thats ever lived. Period. There has never been and will never be another musican in Jazz that inovated as much as he did. So, no matter how you look at it Prima was not on the "same leval" as Louis, and Prima would be the first to tell you that. Now, Louis Prima was still a great musicain... _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. A new SNZ album on the horizon, finally something to talk about besides another BOF concert review (and Tom Maxwell and even Louis Armstrong are at least as "on topic" as Andrew Bird)... and we're not allowed to talk about it unless it's all milk n' cookies. I'll be glad to continue any conversation or debate via private email, but I'm just bloody sick of being chastised every time there is any discussion on this list with substance. This time I won't be coming back, I've had it. I feel very strongly about the Prima/Armstrong thing, and many times have said things with a bit of bite that I should not have. So I am just avoiding doing that to complete strangers. So Andy, if it was from my comment that you are leaving, please do not do so. As I said to Ryan and all, we all have opinions, and I am going to leave it at that. I just happen to believe that Louis Prima was just as important as Armstrong.. perhaps not to jazz, but to music itself. No harm meant, and my apologies to any who felt as if I was out of line. - -Mike ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 17:25:43 -0700 (PDT) From: Shaun Smakal Subject: Re: The New SNZ Good grief people! It's absolutely--ridiculously--hilarious that some are getting upset and leaving the boards over the current discussion! You wouldn't last 3 seconds in the real world! Heh. Am I going to have to play Sinatra singing "Stormy Weather"? I haven't had anything to say (until now really ^_^ ) but at least it was an interesting read. It gets tiresome. Music is a subjective thing. People like what they like. Then, of course, if one puts "criticisms against others" in their headliner, then, the ones who aren't interested could just skip over it.
