A LOT of people, i.e. suburban white kids with CDRs who sell compilations for $5 or so. I REALLY, REALLY can't stand that. >i can honestly say, however, neither I nor my friends has abused it. oh well. theres always something else. Good for you! Well, there's always the samples at CDnow and Amazon and the others. Subject: OT: Duke Ellington's "Far East Suite" and Rhythm & Brass I got the "Special Mix" (1994 or so) of Duke's "Far East Suite" from the library for 2 weeks. DAMN this CD *ROCKS*! Esp. "Blue Pepper (Far East of the Blues)" which is actually played as a rock song! One of the many "essential" Duke alba Also, everyone should check out RHYTHM AND BRASS. http://www.rhythm-brass.com It's a mostly brass jazz band (there's a drummer and pianist). The site has not actual samples, but TRUST ME (or listen to samples on the major buying sites) this group is TIGHT. If they're playing near you CHECK THEM OUT CHECK THEM OUT because the group's concerts are amazing. Not just a pile of songs. Somehow all the segments fit in together like those of a symphony. - - Peter, commander and the leader "Well you can't very well expect a group of people who would rather read than watch an animated movie to have an excellent sense of logic, now do you?" - Serack http://www.geocities.com/pdestructo - Rare Cartoon Network MP3s ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jul 2000 14:59:13 EDT From: BlowRedBlow@aol.com Subject: Re: Hideout hmmm.. "Way Out West." I remember when I saw Andrew last year, he and Colin did an accoustic set for a half hour or so before Josh and Kevin came out. I thought it was something like "Wild West," but this is probably the same song. A great number, and he is very intense on it. What kind of direction are they taking, btw? Are these songs radical departures from Thrills and Grandeur? Only 6 months or so more to find out... :-) - -Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jul 2000 15:07:36 EDT From: BlowRedBlow@aol.com Subject: Re: the-landing-digest V3 #112 I would have to disagree with those who think Napster being shut down is a good thing. It has brought so many new styles of music to my attention and new bands. I never used to listen to Ben Folds Five, but because I downloaded some stuff, I fell in love with their style. I now have all their CDs, have attended concerts, and bought the song book for Whatever and Ever Amen. They did not lose any money on me downloading mp3s. In fact, they gained. As was the same situation for Leonard Cohen (a folk/Rock musician), Moxy Fruvous, the Doors, etc. Maybe it should be a little more controlled, yes. But I do not think that the 30 second, unclear real audio sound clips you get from Amazon and CDnow really give you an idea of if you'll like something or not. I know for me, some songs become favorites because of one little lick or phrase in the song. There's gotta be a better way. - -Mike ------------------------------ End of the-landing-digest V3 #114 *********************************
