You're little happy dance might come across as gloating to those who are without a computer of their own. Let alone a spiffy new laptop like you were lucky enough to get. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! So, unless someone i know calls and asks, or they send me a nice snail-mail letter, we'll never know! Tom's wife is preggers and their kid is due in August. Think that's enough time for us to get together some dough this time? ;) So i went to Tom's show on the 27th of May (i know, this post is LATE...) here's some major points: - -Dexter Romweber, formerly of Flat Duo Jets, now of "Dexterville" opened. Lotsa energy, but it was rockabilly and it sounded like one long song. - -Minor Drag came on butt-late, around 11:30. but hell, it was worth it! - -Tom was sporting a fire-engine red flannel suit. or wool. something fuzzy (i hugged him!) He didn't have a shirt under it cuz it was one of those suits you button all the way to the top. oriental, maybe? Anyway, he looked like SATAN... - -...which was apropriate, cuz they started with "hell" !!! it was super awesome! - -here's the lineup: Tom on vocals, guitar, tenor, bari and alto sax; ken on tenor, alto and bari (or POSSIBLY bass. i couldn't tell, he was sitting down.) and of course, vocals; tom loncaric on piano; robert sledge (of ben folds five) on upright and elec. bass and vocals, chris phillips on drums and percussion and vocals; dave roof (???) on trumpet (not half bad) and for one song, guitar; holly harding badour on vocals; and that Emily lady from the CD on harp. Oh yeah, and the Remember vocal quartet (BADASS!!) - - i think they played all songs from the album, plus 3 i haven't heard (i think 2 were covers) and they also did, other than "hell": Put a lid on it (which he dedicated to "Stacy" and my friend thinks he meant Stacy Guess", The Kraken, Meant to Be and Soon. - -Robert sledge was somewhat surprisingly good (not somewhat good, but i was somewhat surprised at his immense talent, since he is such a doofy guy). He did a great job handling bass on all of the tunes, and he fit right in with the rest of the band. he played some bowed bass too which is wicked. He did a great job on "Samsara"... - -Holly was great, and she sang all the SNZ songs just great, and one of the most intense parts of the show was her singing "samsara" with just the harp (and then at the end some help from Robert on bass). I'm glad Tom got her to come on tour! - -The Remember quartet really stole the show, everyone loved them. ken told me they won't be going on tour with the band (nither will the harpist) and he, tom, rob and chris will be doing the 4-part harmony "two octaves higher, tho." :) - -Attendance was great at the Cradle, but i sort of suspect it was because it was a hometown gig. Darren from BFF was there, as were BFF's tour manager Trey and a BFF roadie, Joe (who is roadieing for Minor Drag.) Ken said attendence in Wilmington NC, the night before, was awful :( I suspect having Robert with the band will not hurt attendence, tho. A few of the people on the BFF mailing list are excited about seeing robert. so anyway, that's all i can remember pretty much. The show was about 90 mins long. here's the longest list of tour dates i can find (better than the website): Sun 06/04/00 Albany, NY Fuze Box Tue 06/06/00 Washington, DC Metro Cafe Wed 06/07/00 Philadelphia, PA Katmandu Thu 06/08/00 Narragansett, RI The Towers Fri 06/09/00 Providence, RI Met Cafe Sat 06/10/00 Edgartown, MA Hot Tin Roof Sun 06/11/00 Cambridge, MA House Of Blues Thu 07/06/00 Columbia, MO Blue Note Sat 07/08/00 Chicago, IL Schuba's Sun 07/09/00 Champaign, IL High Dive Wed 07/12/00 Asheville, NC Grey Eagle Thu 07/13/00 Nashville, TN Dancing In The District Fri 07/14/00 Memphis, TN Hi-Tone Sat 07/15/00 Chattanooga, TN Cricket Pavilion Sun 07/16/00 Charlotte, NC Visulite Theatre Wed 07/19/00 Clearwater, FL Club More Thu 07/20/00 Atlanta, GA The Brandyhouse Fri 07/21/00 Athens, GA Athens Music Factory Sat 07/22/00 Charleston, SC Cumberland's Sun 07/23/00 Garden City, SC Sandstone's Now, i know we've got people representin' in most of those places.
