I just got back from London (which has a certain Zipper-esque story to it) and I haven't given life here at home much thought. Can I send a money order? Whats the address again? Anyway, heres the Zipper-esque part of my trip to London. I'm walking along in Covent Garden, minding my own business, when all of a sudden I hear a fiddle. And a guitar. And a bass. So I follow the sound and come upon this little trio playing in the street for money. The name of the group was GYPSY JAZZ, and sure enough, it was gypsy jazz. They played a lot of original stuff, and some classic standards (THEM THERE EYES, etc) and some Django stuff (MINOR SWING, etc). I stayed and watched them play for a good hour and a half, all the time tossing more coin into the fiddle case. The violin player had never heard of Andrew Bird or the Zippers, but he had that same... flair... that must come from an appreciation for those things that are covered in cobwebs and dead to the rest of the world. They just cut a CD and will be releasing it soon... I'll keep everyone updated if anyone is interested. And thats that! I have three dollars currently, and if I want to eat tomorrow, I must save this money. I will go to the bank tomorrow, however, and send some cash! :) *laura* ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Apr 2000 15:08:21 -0700 (PDT) From: Daniel Summers Subject: tulips or arrangemnt?
