I'm not even sure it will post correctly or not. I just thought I'd put my thoughts about the list in. And it may just be repetitive and all been said already. Oh well. I like the list because I love hearing about BOF shows and getting cool information, but I find it really hilarious how people argue about what is good music and what isn't. Music isn't something that you can rate on a scale and quantify its quality in some grand scheme of estimation. I've played the violin for years, and so that's probably what attracted me to BOF and SNZ and a lot of the music that I listen to. I've played in my school band, and I've been teaching myself the banjo, so I would consider myself a musician (certainly not a great musician). I judge music by how much I enjoy it. This has to do with weather I find the chords/lyrics/solos/feeling/arrangements etc. interesting or not. And talent has almost nothing to do with that. I've heard incredibly talented musicians that I find to be completely boring! Some of my favorite music is incredibly simple (John Prine if anyone has ever heard of him, folk artist). And despite what some people may think, it doesn't take a genius to figure out music theory (even Jazz). ;^) I've heard a lot about how the music that is popular has no substance. I think that's really funny. Obviously people like it, or they wouldn't listen to it or buy the CDs. Its cool because record labels and radio stations are just businesses, and all they want to do is make money... so all they are going to do is play what people want to hear. Oh well. THat's my little rant. I just think it'd be nice if people lightened up a bit and didn't try to rain on other people's parade. But then again, I'm kinda doing that here I guess. The world would be a better place if people were more understanding that different things aren't inferior. If anybody is interested in listening to some great (in my opinion) Hungarian And Gypsy Fiddle Music (and actually read to the bottom of this excessively long message) I would love to share some with you. I can recommend CDs, and/or make an MP3 or two for you to see if you like it or not. Take care. - -- Eric Thompson ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of the-landing-digest V3 #51 ********************************
