I didn't say I was choosing camps, i said there was a definite split. i don't think anyone else has mentioned CHOOSING camps, either. it just ends up that way. The SNZ we saw on Regis & Kathie Lee wasn't as hot as the band i saw at the Cradle in December. Don't get discouraged by that appearance. Upon second and third listening of the live tape i made, I am very very excited about the new stuff. Matt Fisken can also give his opinions on that... Seeing Tom live was amazing too. Like i said, i see good things for BOTH bands. in a way, we did lose out on the SNZ that was "hot" but now we've got more SNZ than we can handle. Let's just hope that we don't run into another JEfferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship disaster :P Jess *********************************************************** * --+-READ THE SHRUBBERY-+-- * http://www.theshrubbery.com --New Every Month- -Humor, Music, News and More-- *********************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Feb 2000 18:06:53 -0500 From: Jessica Brandt Subject: Tom on NPR/news By a stroke of luck, i heard Tom Maxwell on NPR's "All Things Considered Weekend" today (saturday). It was about a 10-15 min. interview. Really no more info gained...if you read my long-ass interview with him on The Shrub, you'd have heard all the same quotes and quips and stories. Before the interview there was a commercial for an upcoming show about slavery and they used one of his songs for the background music...i forget which, tho :) At the end of the interview, the interviewer mentioned Tom will be "King of Mardi Gras" in Maryland during mardi gras. Hopefully, we get more news on that. Anyone on here from that area? Pictures would ROCK!! :) If you need to find out where to get NPR in your area, and when you can hear this show, go to www.npr.org Sorry i didn't mention it sooner! i just heard about it literally 10 mins before it came on. I did tape it, and it's on the end of the Tom Maxwell show i hav, so it'll be going to Matt for the MP3 archive soon. I haven't forgot about Zippers or anything, and by saying that i like BOF more for the moment is not some kind of statment because of what has happened between the "camps". But in true Fauve fashion i have to go with my gut. I just find myself singing and whistling BOF tunes more often than Zippers tunes these days. Thats the whole thing. Both BOF cds get played a hell of lot more than any Zippers cds, just because at the moment they are what i want to listen to. Maybe that's because they are more recent in my collection as aposed to the Zippers cds which i've had for years but either way, that's what i listen to. Furthermore, Andy, I think we definitly have the right to talk and question about what goes on in the band, and the evidence is this list. The fact that we even post means that we care and the fact that we have things like this list is proof that we have that right. I didn't say we didn't have the right to talk about it, I said the band members were not obligated to talk about it, and that anything *we* talk about is speculative at best, judgemental at worst, and irrelevant since we can't do anything about it anyway. It just seems pretty "out there" to say that Tom finding another (IMO very talented) female vocal is "a slap in the face to Kat". Maybe Tom getting Duke Heitger for Samsara is "a slap in the face to Je", but I'm sure glad he did. I'm kind of out of touch with the current SNZ since they haven't released any material yet, and I haven't been able to make any of their live performances. If I do make the pilgrimage to NC, it would be cool to catch both bands on the same trip. I wonder what the odds would be of pulling that off? I'm also wondering if anyone on this list is interested in the music itself, which is the whole reason I have anything to do with SNZ and music today. Its kind of strange that since over a million people bought HOT, and another half million at least bought PF, and so far 700(?) have bought Samsara - that there aren't more people that want to talk about it. You can go to the 1960's music newsgroup and find 50 people debating the merits of one Beatles song. Ok, SNZ may not have the popularity of the Beatles, but I'm still wondering where the on-line fans are.
