It was hot. First off, the room was really small. it was a long bar with a stage at the end. i sat relatively close, as there were about 10 others in the audience (two of them being ken and tom's wives. Let me say right now that Beth Mosher is an absolute DOLL and Mel Maxwell is cute too and they are both nice. My friend and i were wondering how doofy old Ken ended up with such a pretty girl...) anyway, the band was VERY tight. here's the lineup: Tom: guitar, bari, tenor, vocals Ken: Alto, guitar, funny glasses Chris P: drums Stu Cole: bass Tom Loncaric: Piano Holly Harding-Bardor: Vocals Remember: vocal quartet, and one of the tenors was also a trumpet player Here's the setlist: Soon 6's & 7's Put a Lid on It ("a song made popular by Ben Folds Five) Club Limbo ("made popular by Denzel Washington") Meant to Be Roll Them Bones Can't Sleep Twilight ("a medley of our greatest hit") Pallin' with Al Always GEt What's Comin' If I had You Kraken Hush (perf. solely by vocal quartet w/some bass, drums, piano) God' Gonna Cut 'Em Down (vocal quartet w/Tom on lead) Nobody Likes you Caveat Emptor Plenty More The band was really tight. They all agreed that they were much tigheter than their previous show, on the 11th. the crowd was bigger thewre, tho. The only glitch was that on one song, a song in the key of C, Ken played a complete guitar solo in the key of F# and he didn't notice, even tho Tom was yelling at him :D Tom was in great spirits, and as usual a much better frontman than jim (more crowd interaction) Everyone who was there was really into it, but it was Sunday night in a tiny club in Raleigh....eh.... Yes, I did get a tape of it. Ken made a DAT recording of it as well, so i will wait for him to mix that and send me a copy and i will offer up the best one. i'll give a copy to Matt to put on the SNZ live archive, too. Please don't bug me about tapes right now, tho. i promise i'll get it out! Other news, i got to be introduced to Stu (by my bf's mom) and Chris P. (by Ken) and Chris is supposedly going to send me a prevoiew rough copy of the new SNZ album. But i am not going to get too excited about that till is ee it :) Also, Mammoth was dropped by Disney. Disney had the option after 1 year to either fire the president of mammoth and keep the company, or sell the company back to the president. Well, they fired the president and dropped the company. This may mean a subsequent folding of Mammoth. Chris said they aren't being dropped by the label, "it's like indentured servitude." So sad. SAMSARA won't be coming out officially until may 16 now :( Tom said that's not as long as I think, because he's got a lot of shit to do. but at least there's a definite date. Oh also, the Independent Record Co. (www.independentrecordco.com) is not doing too well, they nearly signed Ricky Lee Jones but she backed out. Tom ended up going through Redeye USA (based in NC, www.redeyeusa.com) for distribution of his album. Courtney, our Landing affiliate in Hollywood who works for an online radio station, says she's gotten a promo copy of the album there. So obviously, they're getting thee word out. Ken says he thinks Tom has sold about 650 copies of his 1000-print run. okay well if anyone has any questions, mail 'em to the list and we can discuss :) Jess READ THE SHRUBBERY! http://www.theshrubbery.com *Humor, music, movies, lit, and more!* New Every Month. I'm psyched you got a tape of it. It would be super cool if you'd be able to borrow or make a dupe of Ken's DAT once he masters it. I have access to a DAT which means I'd be able to make a better than mp3 quality recording of it, assuming Tom and Ken are "taper friendly". Again, no hurry on it, but I will have a bunch of time in about a week when my winter break starts. Let me know what you can do and I'll be more than happy to do the conversion. Talk to you later Jess,,,,,,,,, Matty J. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2000 11:35:34 -0500 From: mfisken Subject: RE: oops sorry about the wasted bandwidth, i just wanted to apologize for my previous waste of bandwidth posting to the entire list. later, ------------------------------ End of the-landing-digest V3 #19 ********************************
