Last nights show was really good! Je's sound and playing was even better and all the new songs were great. The trombone player could really play, on a couple solo's he started to play the play Caravan. The sax player was good too, except it was sometimes hard to hear him over all the other horns. The piano player kick's ass! His mom and brother were in the audience, and at one time he passed them a note. Katharine looked and sounded great as always. And Jimbo seemed extremely happy as always. They started the show with Stephen foster, and they except they had to look at the screen to make sure they were playing with the video. Overall it was still one of the best shows to see, and some of Je's solo's were so good I can't get them out of my head. Well, I guess I should TRY and transcribe them. Has anybody else ever transcribed any of Je's stuff? And who else for the list was there? ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 1999 08:04:53 EST From: "Mike Judd" Subject: Metal Flake Mother Subject: Metal Flake Mother Subject: Re: SNZ sons and daughters Cigar Store Indians opened for one of the SNZ shows I've seen. They weren't that bad. I was soo excited about seeing SNZ (was the first time I had) that I probably didn't give Cigar Store enough credit. . Anyone going to the New Year's show in Seattle with SNZ? I went to the Washington DC concert last night. Same setlist as Philly's from what I recalled, but that was not a problem in the least!!! They were still great!! I wasn't as pleased with the 9:30 club as I was with the Philly venue. They have no signs on the outside of the building, so I drove by it 2-3 times before I realized what it was. Parking costs me $10.00 (Which of course I didn't like). I got there at about 7:10, the doors opened at about 7:35, BUT Hobex didn't take the stage until 8:45, and SNZ didn't come on stage until 10:00!!! I didn't like that (Even though it's probably common practice to keep people waiting around so long.) After the concert, which lasted until about 11:35, I had the worst time getting home! I only live abut two to two and a half hours from there (In Lancaster County, PA), but it took me more than 3 hours to get home. I was SOOO tired driving home, and I'm very surprised I didn't fall asleep at the wheel (Thank God that I didn't!) I didn't crawl into bed until 3:00 AM (And that's just awful for me, since I like to get to bed at 9:00-11:00 (Don't laugh =) Katharine had an AMAZING dress on last night; I can't even describe it well (Plus I'm a guy, so I wouldn't know what to call each part). It was red, knee length with a rose design on the whole thing and little fuzzy balls all along the bottom of the dress. the top of the dress was cool, too but I have no idea how to describe it, so just hope the pictures turned out well, and then you can see it. It was so beautiful!!! I was standing right in front of Katharine, but I couldn't get a picture of all of her because I was so close. I was able to get 7 pictures (OF course, without flash), before one of the 9:30 Club staff came and grabbed it from me. He gave it back later, so it wasn't a big deal, but if sure is annoying to have to sneak a camera in to a venue. Of course, I'll try to get the pictures online come January. Reese's mother was standing behind me, and I heard her say that REESE HAS ONLY BEEN PLAYING SINCE HE WAS 12, AND HE PLAYS EVERYTHING BY EAR!!!!!! Absolutely sickening =). Reese was amazing, as in the last concert! It just mystifies me to see him play the piano! Katherine has apparently ditched the stool (I guess because of her pregnancy) in favor of a tall chair with arm rests. At the philly show, she still had the stool, but it appears that she has grown noticably since 2 Sunday's ago. There were a couple rowdy people, unfortuantely, at the concert, but the one who was behind me (who was screaming constantly and cursing at Katherine--I guess he thought he was flattering her or something--finally left after 15 or 20 minutes (THANKFULLY!!!) He was dancing around and knocking into everyone around him. Well, he left, and the other rowdy people weren't nearly as bad. Was anyone else there last night? I have about 3 back issues of The Landing to read, so you may have already written that you were going--I just haven't read it yet. Any other oppinions of the concert? In regards to Cigar Store Indians, I saw them when they toured with SNZ last year. They were at the Southern Theatre in Columbus, Ohio, and T-Model Ford was also with them. Both CSI and T-MF were ABSOLUTLY AMAZING!!!!!! I recommend them to everyone on the list!!! Even though the other 3 times I've seen SNZ, Hobex was touring with them, I must say I enjoyed CSI and T-MF much more. Hobex's music is OK, and the lead singer is REALLY NICE, but it's just not really my kind of music, and I think CSI's and T-MF's music fits much more in context with SNZ's music. Just an oppinion. Any other remarks in regards to that? Well, I can't remember anything else, so I'll go. =) Sincerely; Daniel Summers _______________________________________________________ Visit Excite Shopping at http://shopping.excite.com The fastest way to find your Holiday gift this season ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 1999 15:43:00 EST From: SNZfreak@aol.com Subject: Dilemma I was just informed of some kind of eBay auction for a one-of-a-kind recording by the SNZ with 3 songs I never heard of! I forget the names, a guy I know told me them, I can ask him again. I was unable to locate this because he didn't know the name of the item that particular one, and it was an auction that went off just hours before. Also, he said it went for something like 2 thousand dollars....if you can shed some light on this, let me know. Also, I just found an mp3 for the old version of The Suits are Picking up the Bill from the end of the Hot! ECD. its located at http://come.to/squirrelnutzippers. Maybe you know if this. Its different....real different. ~~G GEorGE HEY! MY MONKEY ATE MY HOMEWORK!! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 1999 13:24:24 PST From: "Ryan Sargent" Subject: New pics. If ou really want a good index of albums avail., then check out the "General Store." You don't have to buy anything, just don't touch anything ;) As for Metal Flake Mother...Have the CD "Beyond the java Sea"..the new pressing with the extra tracks...it's pretty boring punk-metal-stuff. I haven't listened to it in ages. If you go to my MFM page you can see a pic of Jim with long hair! :) Anyway, i don't really like the band. but i am a sucker so i bought the CD. hehe What Peggy Wants...I have seen one of their videos, on the Mammoth Young Rock video. Tom looks funny playing the drums. I think i also saw them in either Immortal or Insignificant Others. They are sort of theatrical, cuz the lead singer (John Ensslin, who i LOVE!!!) is pretty out there. Haven't found any recordings but you never know where ya might find one. Tom is still friends with John, he helped write the title track for his album, "Samsara". That's all. I'm going to NC tomorrow!! :D :D :D Jess *********************************************************** * --+-READ THE SHRUBBERY-+-- * http://www.theshrubbery.com --New Every Month- -Humor, Music, News and More-- *********************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 1999 13:30:57 PST From: "Ryan Sargent" Subject: Re: Dilemma I just searched the completed ebay items on SNZ and I didn't find anything like that.
