D'ya think you can ask Tom a question or two about how he felt concerning the direction Zipper music was taking? It seems that his solo album is a throwback to old-er school Zippers... more arcane, more mysterious, more of what we would expect in a period between THE INEVITABLE and HOT. Duke appeared this past Saturday on A Prairie Home Companion on NPR. I believe he played the whole show with the house band, but I'm not certain. I didn't know ahead of time, or I would have let you guys know. I just happened to hear the rebroadcast on Sunday. There is a photo of Duke on their website. http://phc.mpr.org/performances/19991016/index.shtml They have a real audio archive of the show, if you want to check it out. Check out the tunes "Bandana Days" and "Loving You The Way I Do" for some good stuff from Duke. They also have a short bio on Duke. Here it is. Cheers! Duke Heitger started playing the trumpet professionally at the age of twelve with his father's band in Toledo, Ohio. He moved to New Orleans in 1991 to work with Jacques Gauthe, and has since played at jazz festivals across the U.S., as well as in Europe and New Zealand. He currently leads the Steamboat Stompers jazz trio, which plays daily on the steamboat Natchez. With them, he released Duke Heitger's Steamboat Stompers. He was featured on the Squirrel Nut Zippers' platinum CD Hot, and on recordings with Banu Gibson. His new CD, Swing is Our Business (Fantasy), is scheduled for release later this year. >Hey a while back someone posted a url or mentioned an album photo of Duke Heitger... I know he never played on stage with SNZ so I'm assuming the guy in the bowler hat in the HOT album photo is Stacy. Just wondering if Duke is a young guy or an older guy... he plays like he's been doing it for several lifetimes. Awesome. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of the-landing-digest V2 #243 *********************************
