As a native son of Iowa (state motto: We don't suck as much as North
Dakota) I feel qualified to answer this question, or something.

Glenn Miller was born in Clarinda (as was Donna Reed, an actress) in
south-west Iowa.  They have a marching band competition there that my
high school won for three years in a row.  Their grand prize is the
Glenn Miller Award.  (GET TO THE POINT!!!)  Every year they would tell
us that Miller went into the military in W.W.II and led a band that
traveled around to keep up morale.

On Dec. 15, 1944, he boarded a military transport plane in bad weather
to go to Paris to make final arrangements for a gig the next day.  The
plane never landed, and it was only the next day when the band arrived
that it was discovered he was missing.  Wreckage was never found,
indicating that the plane probably went down in the English Channel. 
There have been reports that a bombing run over Germany was scrubbed
mid-flight due to the bad weather that day, and the bombs were
jettisoned over the channel as the planes returned (this was apparently
standard procedure).  One of the crewmen later saw "The Glenn Miller
Story" movie and recalled that they had seen a small plane go down as
the bombs were dropping.  Hence it is entirely possible that Miller was
killed by friendly fire.  (Another rumor that was published in German
papers has Miller dying in the room of a Parisian prostitute, but this
was probably propaganda.)  Hope this helps.

Well, I just got my computer back yesterday, it was gone for a week or two, 
and I am just finding out about Tom leaving SNZ! Can anyone tell me any more 
details about this other than that he wants to pursue his solo career?  
Please help me! I am a huge SNZ freak (haha) and would like to know. I like 
Tom, he is/was/always will be great! So, can anyone help me?
