In fact it was just last week, so um.. yeah. But I can > >control my CD changer with my mind, so how's that for special? > > Yeah plus you probably drive that way twice a day :-? Well considering I'mt he ONLY perosn in L.A. who doesnt' have a car, no. but i do get odwn to WeHo a lot. especially on our way to century City. and that was the only time i've ever consciously made not of that song on the radio in the 3 years i've lives in Los Angeles. > The following song was used in a really cool new Cartoon Network > commercial. They rotoscoped a few old clips of Tom (as in, Tom and > Jerry) > Cat playing the double-bass and singing, on a white background (Gap > spoor) > and lip-synched in the coolest way possible the following lines: > > Is you or is you ain't my baby > Baby baby found somebody new... > (skat) > Baby baby lost somebody too. > > Does anybody know the title and band? The title of the song is "Is you is or is you ain't my baby?" and while i don't know who does the version in the cartoon netowrk ad, i know there is a fabulous version with Dinah Washington on the Wild Cool & Swingin' Too CD. it's fabulous. i love Dinah. The entire CD is great as well. a definite must-own! ~Courtney The Sultraness of Swing "Yeah, lipstick and a daughter. The Jazz band at my college (piano, and since right now we're gearing up for an Ellington-only concert, this involves me playing about two chords per song, and listening the rest of the time); a jazz band at home (also piano) (home is in the midwest, not the southeast like my college); and a now mostly defunct a cappella quintet (also at home; not exactly doo-wop, but we did a little of that). I play tuba, not trumpet, but we valved brass players stick together.... New to the list and all that. Seen the Zippers 4 times now, every time they get to San Diego. I was wondering if anyone (besides me) thinks that the version of "Suits are picking up the Bill" which plays at the end of the Hot CDROM is superior to the version on Perennial Favorites. Is there perhaps an early live recording of this version somewhere? I think it sounds much fresher and jazzy than the album version, though I've only heard about 20 seconds of it. That's all for now. I was not exactly pleased with their performance on Leno, but that's just my opinion. Maybe Leno had something to do with it. But I enjoy the dustbrothers remix, and before PF came out, I would listen to the 20 sec clip of "Suits" on HOT incessantly. - -Gatsby ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Feb 1999 15:06:50 -0500 From: Dawn Carr Subject: RE: Intro/Suits question I agree that the Leno appearance was disappointing. Didn't someone tell Jimbo not to look directly into the camera? Oh dear. I may be insane and about to embarrass myself, but I don't think there's a 20 second version of Suits on my Hot. Hmm. Mine is a promo copy (with the band photo on the cover), so maybe that's why. It also doesn't seem to have interactive stuff. So go get yourself a real copy.. ;) - -Gats ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Feb 1999 03:53:16 -0500 From: Jessica Brandt Subject: goodies First off, I've updated "Passed out on the Landing" by adding the NEW Metal Flake Mother (jimb's first band) page, fixing Wash Jones' Books, and making an ARCHIVE of all the landing digests thus far! Go here for the main page: http://members.xoom.com/ZipperJJ and then follow the apropriate links. Hopefully SOON I will have a Louis Armstrong page (many many thanks to Ryan!!!!) and then Chicken Wire Gang(je) and What Peggy Wants(Tom) pages. Also, a couple of tiny notes: Kat's album is done. sitting on the shelves. If we calculate the record company correctly, they'll wait ti put it out until after they release "Stephen Foster" as the new single, which means a wait of possibly two months before we get to hear it! Gotta make the dough. Andrew Bird is working on his new album right now. My copy of "Thrills" has a huge gash in it. Hope i win that new copy off eBay...doesn't matter anyhow, my CD player is broke. As for other Zipper solo projects, Knockdown Society will follow Andrew, then whatever ol' Tom is doing. HOWEVER, they are popping around the country, sitting in with every band that'll have them. I'll keep you updated on albums that come out on which they make guest appearances. HOBEX....all i know is that the Zipper horn section appeared on this funk band's indie album "Back in the 90's"...which has ben re-released on an actual label....and i think it might be re-re-released on another, larger label. Check out their website: http://home.earthlink.net/~hobex/ I am desperately awaiting any updates on www.snzippers.com, but I think Ken has his mind set on other things at the moment. Not everyone can be like me and spend 24 hours a day online. Guess he has a house and a wife or something...blah blah BLAH... if you can think of any questions, please don't be afraid to ask. That's what we're all here for!
