Still don't really "get" it--but it always takes me a long time to get her stuff. I guess that's why I can listen to it so many times. Anyway, I can't think of anything intelligent to say about it, but if you want something impressionistic, I'd say Lisa has cranked up the "creepy" knob as well as the "pretty" knob on this album (pretty much abandoned the "commercial" knob). The prettiness kind of emphasizes the creepiness, or is it the other way around? I haven't sat down and analyzed it yet, but I believe I recognize some of those rarely visited modes of the melodic minor she explored in "Rare, Unusual or Just Bad Songs" (which sometimes I think is my favorite LG album) and of course her old friend, the Lydian mode. That's all I've got for now. - --Tom Lucas - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address.
