I remember being struck by how unusual these songs sounded, different from anything I'd heard before. I also loved the sarcasm in her voice as she sang certain lyrics. Plus a sucker for violins and mandolins. But I think Tom makes a good point about honesty in the lyrics. I would also add that she sounds authentic when she sings them; she means what she sings. You can hear the honesty in her voice. I'll take that over someone with powerful pipes performing vocal exercises in a song anyday. Admittedly, a lot of her music can be "difficult" listening (maybe someone could supply a better description here). I think most people don't have the attention span to appreciate it. Personaly, I think I love Lisa because, when I first heard her music, it was live, and she simply hypnotised me (as well as the rest of the audience). There was really something magic about it that day. I think it has a lot to do with the soft voice, with her charisma as a singer, and because her simple and ironic lyrics really moved me. I think, it's more about the bitterness and great sense of humour than about the anti-bullshit honesty, at least for me.
