Why is it that some of us like Lisa's music so much, while most are pretty lukewarm about her? I guess I've been pondering this question at least since I drove down to LA with Sean Barret, the first other Lisa fanatic I ever met. A couple of explanatory theories have bit the dust, but now I've got a new one: We hate bullshit. What is more characteristic of Lisa's songs than brutal honesty, laying all her faults out on the table, and condemning others' bullshit? Of course, being human, she sneaks in bullshit of her own, and has to condemn that too (e.g. "We suck"). Personally, I'm very anti-bullshit; in fact, one of my oldest friends says my biggest fault is that I'm brutally honest. (It certainly can be a fault, but that's another topic.) Which is not to say I'm totally serious either; I love and practice flippant, over-the-top bullshit--but that's another topic too...
