Lisa played a truly wonderful set here in San Francisco Tuesday night. Others have already posted the setlist and comments. It is such a rare opportunity to see her live that I couldn't resist borrowing a friend's DAT gear and making an audience tape. Apologies in advance if this has been discussed here previously, but is Lisa OK with fans trading live tapes? Unless it is inappropriate, I'd like to offer up a CD of my recording for a vine to the members of the list. If you are unfamiliar with the term vine, I will "seed the vine" by sending out a copy of the CD to someone with a burner who can make a copy for themself, and then send along the original to the next person on the vine. This continues until "the caboose", the last person on the vine. Let's keep this first vine small. I'll select 4 list members with burner capabilities and one "caboose" from e-mails that I receive within the next day or two. (The "caboose" would be someone who can't burn CDs and gets to simply keep the original disc that they receive. If there is still interest after that, hopefully someone on this first vine can offer to "re-vine" for others:-) I'll post the vine structure in a day or two. Hopefully it goes without saying, but no one should ever try to profit from fan recordings! After several misfortunes for the Blood Group (including a fire, illness, theft, and "weird ghostly writing"), the band follows the Everything Forgotten Gathers at the Ceiling EP with a more realized full-length. It's a debut that fits well in the Le Grand Magistery catalog, with equal parts ambient pop ("Longblondehair") and chamber pop ("Escapists"). If anything, however, Volunteers has more elements of sadcore, as James Jackson Toth and Miss Jessica B trade off soft and somber vocals over placid beats. Most of this shares the same forlorn tone as Black Box Recorder or the Tindersticks, with songs such as "Tongues With Tongues" reveling in a doleful church organ. Guests and collaborators (including Justin Russo from Mercury Rev and Hopewell) add to the orchestrations, helping the Staten Island, New York duo to flesh out its ideas and imagery. The off-center interlude "Black Box Room" seems out of place for a record so solemn, though Volunteers goes right back into ethereal tones that would be suitable for 4AD. -- Kenyon Hopkin".................also the doors are at 8pm and the show begins at 9pm..we have a 200 person capacity so call early for reservations..518 822 8189..thxx..any questions use bunnybrain@hotmail.com see ya at the show - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address.
