Well, I made the trek down to LA again last Friday to see the 
day-after-CD-release party show, dragging along Sean (of 
www.guillotinelove.com) again as well as Dione (my ex-girlfriend) and my 
friends Barb and Walter (who were already down their--we crashed with them 
that night). Met Christe (aka "indiasbelly") & her boyfriend and delivered 
her a button. In fact we all wore buttons, except for Dione (she thought they 
weren't cool), who was the only one of us to see Lisa up close (she ran into 
her in the bathroom). Dione couldn't think of anything to say, though. ("You 
should have worn a button" I told her. "You could have talked about that!" ( 
Sorry, didn't mean for this to turn into more button spam*, but what can you 
do...)).

Enough about me...Lisa, backed up on bass by Sebastian Steinberg of the 
Vulcan eyebrows and on autoharp and keyboard by Denis Bonis, played a 
pared-down version of the whole "Lullaby" album. I'd only heard the album 
once before (still haven't received my order). There's a lot I don't get yet, 
but there's a lot of fascinating stuff. Like polytonality (playing in two 
keys at once), something I've never heard outside of a music class. 

Lisa was in a good mood and joked about how that made it hard to do some of 
her more depressing songs. ("I was in a lousy mood last night..." she said).

And here's another clue for you all:  Lias talked about her mother telling 
her not to end the album on one of the more downer songs, I guess the second 
to last (I haven't got the album handy) and then launched into the last song 
after saying "So this one is for Betty".

So if, like me (and Sean) you didn't know who "Betty" was but speculated that 
it was her mother, now you know!

After the set she did an encore, something she refused to do the last time I 
saw her..she played "When I think of Love" which she'd tried to play by 
request before her set, when she jammed with one of the openers, John Doe, 
but forgot in the middle. She played it pretty well, but couldn't quite pull 
of the imitation descending violin glissandos on the keyboard. I think she 
got all the words though--tough, when the lyrics sound like a thesaurus 
entry.

Thanks, Tom. Nice review of the show.  I wish Largo was in Austin.

I got my copy of Lullaby and have listened to it a only couple of times, 
and not closely. One of my first impressions is of strength and 
sophisticated self-assurance in her voice that at times belies the 
melancholy of the words.  But like I said, it's just a first impression.

Can someone send a link to the lyrics for Lullaby?
