I have not been writing to this list for a long time. Only been quitely observing what you others have been writing. Now at last there is some light ahead and we will have a new CD from Lisa and she will be touring around. In Brussels, Belgium she will be appearing 26.4. with Eleni Mandell. See: http://www.aisbe.com/botanique/frame2.html (I am planning to go to this concert) In France & Switzerland she will also be appearing with Eleni Mandell and in some places with Maria McKee. Does anyone know anything about those two artists, i.e. Eleni Mandell and Maria McKee? Another question: Does anyone know ED Harcourt? (An English guy (24) from Brighton, Sussex, England as far as I can gather). On his last CD "FromEverySphere" Lisa sings the backing vocals on 2 songs. According to a reliable source (I don4t have this CD (yet!)) following is to be seen on the booklet on the list of the names of the people who took part in the music of this CD: "LISA Germano (sumatra!) sings backing vocals on "BleedARiverDeep" and "Jetsetter" and played some viola on "FromEverySphere". I wonder if someone knows what this "sumatra!" is supposed to mean .............?. Does anyone have an idea of why he wrote (sumatra!) after Germano? Hi Vigfzs: Ed Harcourt opened for Neil Finn during his North America tour last year and Lisa, of course, was playing with Neil on that tour as well. My guess is they know each other from that experience, but I have no idea about "sumatra!". Must be an inside joke between the two of them... I really love her stuff and was blown away when I saw that she would be opening for Lisa in Europe. Her style is different from Lisa's but I think they will complement one another nicely. Her music has a kind of nightclub feel to it - intimate, smoky vocals, simple arrangement and instrumentation. I read that Tom Waits is a fan of hers too! I have her Snakebite CD, which has some elements of country on it but isn't all one sound either. You can listen to samples from her latest "Country For True Lovers" at her site. It sounds very alt-country to me. - --- Christe Respess wrote: > Date: Wed, 5 Mar 2003 16:41:44 -0800 (PST) > From: Christe Respess > Subject: Re: sycophant Lisa in concert with Eleni > Mandell 26.4.03 in > Brussels > To: sycophant@smoe.org > > Hi Vigfzs: > > Eleni Mandell is a singer-songwriter (guitar player > too, I think) based in Los Angeles. They had a hit in the U.S. with a song written by Tom Petty called "Ways to be Wicked." Their music was sort of alt-country before that term became well-known. They were looked upon as "the next big thing" in the rock world, but they imploded under the hype and disbanded shortly after their second album. Maria recorded three solo works (and another one is coming soon). The first two continued in the Lone Justice vein, more or less, but her third album, "Life is Sweet", was a major departure for her musically. Geffen dropped her not long after the album was released. She's got a powerful, fantastic voice and she is a terrific songwriter. I highly recommend checking her stuff out. www.mariamckee.com - -- Tim In a message dated 3/5/03 4:17:34 PM, Vigfus@sks.is writes: >Does anyone know anything about those two artists, i.e. Eleni Mandell and >Maria McKee? - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address.
