Up until a few weeks ago I had only heard of Lisa's name in passing mostly in connection with Neil Finn (a fellow New Zealander). Well most of you probably know that in early April Neil Finn played 5 shows in Auckland NZ with some of the people he's become friends with during his 20+ year musical career. Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam, Phil and Ed from Radiohead and Jonny Marr from the Smiths were all there, as well as someone I didn't know a lot about - Lisa! Me and my girlfriend flew up especially for these shows, and saw all five of them since Neil Finn, Pearl Jam and Radiohead are among our favourite bands. The shows were AMAZING. Hopefully some of you watched the webcast they did of the April 6th show (it will soon be on cable TV in Aus/NZ BTW). SO many talented musicians on stage at once playing incredible songs.... wow Anyways, on the first night Neil invited Lisa to sing a song - she sung what I now know to be 'cry wolf'. It was just an amazing moment.... the whole venue went quiet and I don't think many people knew a lot about her beforehand. Over the 5 nights, she played I think 3 different songs several times each... cry wolf, paper doll (?) and one other I'm not sure what the title is. Anyway, everyone I spoke to about the shows agreed Lisa had blown them away and in a newspaper she was called the "MVP" (most valuable player) of all the guests. She was constantly providing beautiful backing vocals to Neils songs, playing piano, guitar, ukelele, violin or anything else it seemed. Seeing her play violin to the Pearl Jam song 'corduroy', sing *perfect* vocals to the Neil Finn song 'turn and run', do a ukelele duet with Eddie Vedder on the song 'paradise' and sing her songs to near total silence every night were some of the highlights of the week. She was amazing. So is there anyone else from New Zealand on this list? I'd love to know the real names of those songs she played. Since the shows I've bought the 'geek the girl' album (the only one I could find in the shops here sofar). Haven't had time to give it enough play yet..... but what albums should I be getting next? Are there many live shows out there someone could trade with me? Hopefully someone can give me some recommendations and help!
