I also saw her in SF at The Bottom of the Hill Club. She was great, she was the star and she was nice enough to hang around a little bit, in her lingiere no less! (It was a very hot night) signing autographs and chatting to fans. I would have loved to talk to her but 1) I was scared shitless 2) My newlywed wife who called her a 'waif' was with me and would have been jealous I think. We're divorced now so gosh darn it, wish I had done it. Lisa, come back on your own! Hi to all you sycophants out there by the way - I don't post much but love to hear what most of you say. Are they really just "ok"? Probably. To give them a fair review I'd have to get some of their albums and play them enough to let the songs sink in, and frankly that show did not inspire me to do that. But they weren't bad, and they have a following (certainly a better one than my band!), so obviously a lot of people think they're better than okay. - --Tom - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. You know, I read something about that show and was going to go, but couldn't remember where she was playing, and the idiots at BASS were useless. Contest Kevin's e-mail has made me wonder what I'd say if I did get a chance to talk to Lisa, say for a minute after a show or something. Something nice, but banal, like "I love your work."? Asking her about some wonky arcana (like my theory of the photos on Moon Palace and Happiness)? Mundane people magazine type questions? Small talk, e.g. "Nice club here, isn't it? Too bad about the sound system."? I can't think of anything good! So let's have a contest. Who can come up with the best thing to tell or ask Lisa in a brief, casual post-show context? No winners, losers, or prizes, though of course we can all comment on the submissions.
