As an aside, I believe that grammatical and spelling errors (rampant on both the website and in the reply) always damage the credibility of any communicator. This is the note I sent to the "turning into Betty" website: >Hello turning-into-betty website. Your web site became known to the sycophant listserv today, a list dedicated to Lisa Germano, and it has generated some discussion. We all want the best for Lisa, and would love to know that she is happily married with a child, living in Texas, and has plans for another CD with 4AD. So we're all curious to know how you came by all this wonderful news. Can you tell us your source? Thank you, - -Jeff Pearson Berkley, MI Here is the reply I received: >Date: 5 Jan 00 05:42:04 MST From: Lisa Germano To: jeffrey.pearson@mail4.wayne.edu Subject: Lisa Germano informations CC: turning-into-betty@usa.net X-Mailer: USANET web-mailer (M3.4.0.33) Dear Jeffrey, Since we aren't a subscriber to Sycophant, we can't know what's going on on the list. In reguards to your general wondering, let us enlighten you. Most information that we have posted on the biography section comes from interviews, magazine articles, and music-books alike lexicons. In that retrospect, we believe these informations to be correct. As you may have been reading on the Turning Into Betty site, we had listed a future album in connection to 4ad. As you also may know, Lisa's record deal with 4AD has expired, and is not being renewed. This has put an end to that co-operation. Yet sourses close to Lisa Germano have stated new information in reguards to Lisa Germano's next album. They were published through E. Lisa Germano is currently working on her next album. The current working title is 'Visions Of La', referring to the lost continent of Mu. Lisa has no idea whether to release the album on her own 'label' major bill, and put it on sale through the internet, or is she should go record-deal hunting. Only time will reveal that. A minor part of the information that we state comes from fans alike. Since we can't check up on every bit of information we launch, we can't know if it's a fraud or not. Therefore we try to handpick what is most likely not to be a fraud. This includes concert dates, discography informtions etc. Yet some of the biography includes info from fans. I hope this has enligtened a bit for you and the other subscribers on Sycophant. If you have any other questions etc. please don't hessitate to e-mail us. I find the site, and the "team's" replies to email queries, utterly bizarre and frankly kind of creepy. It did occur to me that English may not be the team's first language, but a language gap doesn't explain what appears to be completely nutty info about Lisa Germano's life and career. Anyway, I noticed that right below the links for contacting the webmaster and 4AD, there's a "Contact Lisa Germano" email link that lists her address as lisa-germano@usa.net. Oddly enough, usa.net is also the webmaster's domain. I wonder what happens when you email "Lisa Germano" at that address--do you suppose the Turning Into Betty team answers for her?! From the goofball web page... "lisa elizabeth germano was born in orange county, california, on 17th august 1969. her childhood was heavily influenced by catholisism, to which both her parents were devoted follorwers. due to this, lisa germano was attending choir-singing in the local church (although she hated it) from the age of 7 to the age of 13, and it was in those years that lisa learned to appreciate music in its various forms. at the age of 9, lisa germano started taking piano-lessons, but was dumped a year later by her piano teacher because she 'couldn't learn to play with both hands at the same time'. lisa germano took this very personal, and was very depressed about it, until her granfather gave her his old violin as comfort. a new talent was born..." Yes, Lisa was raised catholic, attending St. Monica's, but I don't think she was ever in the choir. Her "appreciation" of music more than likely came from her father, who was at various times a member of the South Bend Symphony and Chicago Symphony. Her 2 older brothers played guitar (I believe the oldest did, too), and I think she was taught by her parents (?) to play piano. More... "at the age of 17, lisa germano 'ran away' from home to san francisco, where she made a living by playing her violin in the streets. she even got to make a few stage performances at local bars. at the age of 18, she met leon caster, who was a bassist in a band called 'fisherman's call', and became a guitarist for the band. for a long time, lisa was not permitted to sing as lead vocalist in the band, yet one evening at a minor performance, she stood up and sang a song from their repertory to great astonishment for the listeners. the next day she was dumped by the band for stealing the spotlight..." At the age of 17, LG was a sophomore at Mishawaka H.S. I don't think she "made a living playing violin" until she relocated to Tennessee, but I'm probably wrong here. I have no idea where the rest of the story came from. I never recall LG running away from home, and recall that she was as well-adjusted as your average 17-year-old. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-sycophant@smoe.org [mailto:owner-sycophant@smoe.org]On Behalf Of nevermor@mhonline.net Sent: Tuesday, January 04, 2000 10:14 AM To: sycophant@smoe.org Subject: Re: sycophant-digest V4 #170 bilbo hicks wrote: > What is the address for that site 'turning into betty? > > > http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Square/2568/biography.html > - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. I looked up all kinds of information about Lisa Gerrard and DCD on the Web and have drawn two conclusions: 1) DCD sound interesting and I need to listen more closely to some of their music, and 2) if accurate biographical information about Lisa Germano is the bullseye, and an enthusiastic but confused-with-Lisa-Gerrard bio on Lisa Germano is the outer area of the dart board, then the "Turning Into Betty team" (ha ha!) threw their dart straight into the pint glass of some guy sitting at the bar. Lisa Gerrard was born in Australia and apparently lives there today. She's also spent quite a bit of time living and working in Europe. As lovely and vital as she appears in photographs, I don't think she was born in 1969. No mentions of children, Texas, or a husband named Nick. I could go on, but you get the idea. So, we rule out Lisa Gerrard, but the mystery of a child, a ranch in Texas, and a husband named Nick lingers...
