In fact I discovered Lisa with her first album already (in Brussels we have one of the biggest mediatheque in Europe), but I was disappointed: no voice, not even like Will Oldham, and bad lyrics about unhappy love affairs. In 1992 or 3, I was (I'm still is) a big Giant Sand fan and they made the "Purge and Sludge" album. Howe Gelb (a hero) made a quote from one of Lisa's songs : "Bad Attitude". In fact I would have like (do you say that?) to take the happiness album in that mediatheque, but someone was faster than me, so I took On The Way Down. With that quote from Giant Sand and the song title "Bad Attitude" I thought "Lisa Germano : that's surely someone dangerous". I thought Giant Sand was dangerous too, in some way they are. So it's Howe Gelb's fault I'm in love with Lisa now. Yeah, some month after my little disappointment already forgotten I heard the song Bad Attitude on the radio and I fell my ass on the floor (that's a French Belgian expression literally translated) : "Is this song from that little girl princess? Yes, it was. I bought the CD, I went to see her on stage, I fell in love (I fall easily, you know, I'm rather tall and the gravity is without pity). That's my little story about my virtual meeting with Lisa. I also wrote her about five very long letters with an English more clumsy than this. She has never answered. I think she thought I was a stalker. Or maybe she thought nothing. I also send her tapes of some very good Belgian bands and one tape with the incredibly good "Czekish" viononist and female singer Iva Bittova (kind of folk avant-gardist, very appreciated in downtown New York). I hope she loved it. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for every Sycophant members. And to Lisa.
