Sara, I think her tour with the Playboys is coming to a close tomorrow :o( Check out www.4AD.com for dates and info. Sadly, she's been talking about giving up music (the business anyway), so probably no more shows for her, although I don't know. She might be touring with some of her musician friends in the future, but I don't think she's gonna promote anymore records. Maybe you already know all this :o) Anyway, we all have to stick together, these are sad times. - - S Angerbo*a ók Lóki ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. Please, listers, if you know of any upcoming TV performances, or any availability of Lisa on video, inform the list. (If anyone who has the Conan performance wants to trade for a copy, please contact me.) I saw Lisa with the Latin Playboys last thursday. The Majestic in Detroit; an old movie theater now a concert venue. My first time to hear her live, first time to see her besides the few photos on her CDs and on the web. She took the stage without any introduction or adjustment in theater lighting. Just walked out to her keyboards and started playing and singing. Immediate bliss for me. The music seemed to flow through and out of her. She was humble to an indearing fault. When the Lisa fans started clapping after her first song (Geek the girl), she kind of stopped and said something like, "That's OK, this is just light entertainment before the real music later on". She played: Geek the girl, Baby on a plane, Messages from Sophia, Electrified, Reptile, Wood floors, and a song I did not know. About a half hour. She is as vulnerable and open, as brave and beautiful as her music. I was surprised with how strong her voice is, her voice is often so soft and whispery on her CDs. And her keyboard playing, electic piano and organ, was great. I was entranced. Her "Slide" producer came out and added some ambient noises. Personally, I thought it detracted and made it difficult to hear what she was doing. Later, the Latin Playboys were great and she obviously had a wonderful time playing with them. There was an obvious pocket of Lisa fans crowded around the end of the stage where she played violin. It was a good crowd, not too large or noisy. I think Lisa grabbed their attention and they listened. I loved it. I wished I could have beamed myself to Chicago for her gig the next night. - -Jeff - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. I actually met her twice -- before and after the show. We were wandering around in the balcony at Park West and accidentally crossed through the VIP section. Almost walked right by her standing there until I realized it was her. She was extremely friendly; we chatted for a couple of minutes and then she went on stage. Her set was excellent -- lots of songs from Slide and Love Circus as well as probably my favorite song of hers -- The Darkest Night of All. The Playboys set was outstanding and Lisa was obviously having a great time. Her playing really augmented an already unique sound. We hung around a little and I was able to give her a copy of the CD my band released at the end of last year. Hopefully she'll listen and, who knows, reply. If there are any shows left make sure you catch one.
