But you really should get on 4AD´s case, try e-mailing Tim (he´s the Mail Order Chief), timhall@almaroad.co.uk. Hope I´ve been any help in all this rudeness :o) Stian ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. Businesses get a lot of mail. For something to get lost in the shuffle isn't inconceivable. I still think 4AD's list of talent is hard to match. I still think 4AD's list of talent is hard to match. I think people were angry because they thought they had dropped Lisa. I was pissed off because they lacked the professionalism and the courtesy to respond to my letter, ESPECIALLY when I was kind enough to send a SASE. I'm sure in that small time operation, it didn't get lost in the shuffle. I realize it is a possibility though. I will try again and then we'll know for sure. I have received letters back from much bigger corporations before, even when I didn't send SASE's, so that is my gripe about them. As I said, I think some people were angered by her not being on their cheezy label anymore. - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. This has been demonstrated in recent months by scheer, Heidi Berry, Lush, Tarnation, and most recently, Dead Can Dance. The label is not one to arbitrarily drop its artists at the drop of a hat. In some interviews I've read I get the impression from Lisa that she's concerned that her relatively low record sales will culminate in getting dropped from 4AD. Most 4AD albums >don't< break into the record charts in the first place; the last one that I can remember -- and I don't even know if this is entirely accurate -- was Lisa Gerrard and Pieter Bourke's collaboration, "Duality" from 1998 gusGus' album "Polydistortion" also did well, but the difference with these two albums is that there was a bigger marketing push for both albums by Warner Bros. Both artists are represented in the U.S. by Warner Bros. Now that 4AD's licensing and distribution agreement with Warner Bros. no longer exists, 4AD's visibilty has waned. They don't seem to market or promote their artists adequately, and there is a lot of reliance on an established listener base and 4AD's reputation. But as Miki Berenyi, former Lush member, says, "There are certain artistic advances to an independent label..." So...I think we shouldn't jump to any conclusions about Lisa's relationship with 4AD just yet. If something's up, I am confident we'll hear about it. I'm sure some of us on this list are on the 4AD mailing list, so anything that is said will invariably find its way here. A few 4AD personnel keep in touch with listeners via this list, so we get the news from the horse's mouth. As for 4AD not responding to letters, my experience has been the opposite. But I also find that I have better results by contacting them via e-mail or through the mailing list. - -- Stealth / Tim - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address.
