The second (something pink?) had some interesting tunes as well. I enjoyed the piece "God" and was pleased to see it as a single in the US market. After that, most of her songs were weak. After seeing her live (twice) in Atlanta, I can't think of a more boring performer. She plays so well and has a lovely voice but I think she isn't interested in being original anymore. She wants very badly to sell records (and I suppose she is successful if you look at the numbers). So many of her fans are unable to take a look at her with a critical eye (they would be happy buying a CD of Tori bathroom noises if it were available - and, sadly, I could see Tori making such a recording available in order to make a buck). But hey,.. isn't this list about Lisa?! Seeing her again tonight (second row seats at the Greek), so she gets one last chance to change my opinion :) Hopefully it'll be a good show... --Matt J - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Sep 1998 15:48:56 -0700 (PDT) From: Matt J Subject: Re: sycophant on tori amos On Tue, 22 Sep 1998 Joe_Horne@matrixresources.com wrote: > I was so impressed with Tori's album "Little Earthquakes". I disagree that _Under the Pink_ was her last original album; I think _Boys for Pele_ was actually SO original and experimental that it alienated a lot of her previous listeners. The production was a lot less "easy listening" as well. All in all, however, I agree with what you're saying, and I can't believe that she thinks she can get away with using late eighties acid filter sweeps and thinking she's original; if Madonna's doing it, it's probably not quite cutting edge anymore, you know what I mean? Besides, that whole "Jackie O" thing, metaphoric though it might be, is just way to cliche. --Matt J - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant ------------------------------ End of sycophant-digest V3 #94 ****************************** ======================================================================== Please send any questions or comments about the list to sycophant-owner@smoe.org
