Rather than performing with a full band, it was just Liz with her touring guitarist. They played the following songs: Supernova Divorce Song Stratford-on-Guy Nashville Fuck and Run I was pleasantly surprised to hear her play "Nashville". I don't think she has performed it live since March 1994 (prior to Whip-Smart's release). Ted Leo joined Liz for "Fuck and Run", contributing backing vocals and tambourine. I can't wait to see what else she plays at the upcoming shows. Nashville was THE bust-out. I couldn't believe it when I heard those first few notes. I've actually been on a bit of a Whip-smart kick lately and was kinda blown away by that as a choice for such a short set. Total old school. Way too short. Nice banter. Of course she brought up her "notorious stage fright"! I don't know. What did everyone think? I thought her voice and playing were good, but she was a little shaky on the partnership with... whoever that was. The way she played with both Dino and Buddy was much more natural and together. If this is her touring guitarist, which I think it is, I am sure they will be more in sync for tour. Also, that Rolling Stone video she posted on FB today is awesome ( http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/51942/214794). My favorite part is when she says: "What is it like when you've been, sort of, counter-cultural, then suddenly the culture is embracing you?" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Oct 2010 20:56:01 -0700 From: Paul Weir Subject: Re: [support-system] Matador Set I was totally surprised and of course thrilled with "Nashville." I'm hoping this means it might make it onto the set-list for the upcoming shows (anyone else going to the show at the Doug Fir here in Portland?). It was odd because for the last few tours she had gotten really polished and comfortable on stage and for these songs some of her old-skool awkwardness seemed to pop up here and there. - -- peace and love and empathy, Paul "Daylight catches me by surprise almost every night and kicks my way another hole to sleep."
