This is the least self-conscious Liz has sounded in a long time. Part of me wonders if some of this is new music that she wrote and recorded in reaction to her departure from ATO and not from the album she was recording for them. Most of these songs sound nothing like "Spoiled Peach" or "Faith and Tenderness", nor do they sound like anything Jeff Trott would have worked on. It seems like Liz is having some fun and experimenting, which is good to see. However, I can't really see this as being the new music Liz was reportedly shopping to labels after parting ways with ATO, so hopefully that means there is also a more conventional album coming at some point. In the meantime, I'm glad she's quietly released this for the fans. Although she did so with no fanfare, I really hope it gets people talking. Also, did anyone else notice that the zip file was labeled "Liz Phair - - Buy Funstyle July 2010.zip" instead of, say, "Liz Phair - Funstyle.zip"? The inclusion of the date makes me wonder if there are going to be future installments. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I really do hope there's more music on the way. Cheers, Jase ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V12 #14 ************************************
