Now the next step, Liz, is to remaster > ALL of the Girly > Sound tapes to make them sound this amazing! That's actually a version done in an early "EIG" session, not a Girlysound recording at all. And most of the GS stuff I hear must be 29th generation or so, which is why it doesn't sound great. I've got original mixes that, a flaw or two aside, sound pretty great. But not as professionally recorded as this version of AIA, of course. > Is it just me, or is "Ant in Alaska" missing a > couple of lines? At the time, that wasn't considered a finished vocal take. I remember Liz and I laughing (and arguing, I'm sure) about trying to find a different "insure" line that made some sense, but it never got done. There was a plan to do some minimal overdubs to the song that didn't happen. I still like it a lot though; it reminds me of those sweet songs that Lou Reed would write for Mo Tucker, and it has a really great sense of drama and tension and release - a really pure song. Thanks for asking . . . John Henderson ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jun 2008 09:43:35 -0500 From: "Katie Brown" Subject: [support-system] Ant in Chicago.... I love the new version of Ant in Alaska but I am bummed about her dropping "I look at the cars and I know you insure them" because I loved that line! I thought it was very relevant to the purpose of the song and directing it to someone for whom she's just an ant in Alaska. Chicago concert-goers, I will be at Big City Tap before the show, it's right across the street from the Vic and has bar food and good beer, there is is usually a big rush before shows so the jukebox gets the fans talking to each other... Jase, I have your cell and I will text you when I get around there. I think you should go to Reckless Records on Belmont and Broadway, only a few blocks East of the Vic. That makes more sense, upon second listen of the song. Hi y'all, I bought two tickets to the Chicago show on Tuesday, but my date fell through. Boo, wah, not everything goes my way! Anyway, I have this extra ticket if someone wants to go. I'll sell it for $20 or a few beers. Also this gives me a chance to meet someone who really loves Liz, 'cause I don't know anyone IRL. hearts, Andrea ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jun 2008 22:27:28 -0500 From: Liz J Subject: [support-system] Wild Thing Now that "Wild Thing" seems to have been dropped from the re-issue (although perhaps present on the advance copy?), I seem to remember reading a wcse-era interview (I think?) where Liz talked about having a Girly Sound song that couldn't make the cut becausethe music was too close for copyright reasons to another song. I'd guess that's what happened again, although it's too bad another song couldn't be substituted. Hopefully the advance copy version will leak. Did I just imagine this interview?
