[Meredith Robbins Subject: [support-system] New Girlysound CD? Hi everyone, I've been reading the discussion of the exhumed Girlysound tracks with great interest, but things have been so crazy here (wacky school madness! wacky work madness! wacky moving madness!) that I haven't been able to find the time and inclination to follow directions and download the songs. I seem to recall a vague rumbling about maybe burning the tracks to CD -- if someone were going to follow through on that, I think I might tinkle a little with joy. Don't know if we'd be looking at the tape-tree thing or what, or maybe someone would be a special friend and burn a CD just for me... All I knows is, if we're going to be waiting around for me to download the songs from the Internet to see what I think, we're going to be waiting a mighty long time. (Update for people who know me from way back and haven't heard from me since THE DAWN OF TIME: Almost finished with grad school. Working as school librarian. Living with super-excellent psychiatrist boyfriend in sorta-semi-swanky Central Park West pad. So stressed I've involuntarily given up sleeping. And how are you?) "Polyester Bride," in particular. it was never a favorite of mine ~ especially as the lead-off single ~ but i appreciate it now more because i've heard its original incarnation. it's funny, but i love the girlysound version more ~ and i'm so glad she put some structure into that song because it's such a sprawling mess. "Shatter" sounds pretty damn cool in its girlysound incarnation, but this version makes the EXILE version sound even that much more majestic. i love listening to the original forms of songs, the demos and the alternate takes. listening to these reminds me of listening to the Beatles Anthology series or some of Elvis Costello's 2-disc reissues. "Miss Mary Mack" is an excellent tune and i'm surprised it wasn't used for eventual release. "Clean" (or "Never Said") is pretty damn cool, too. by listening to both the "original" and these girlysound versions, i've gained quite an appreciation for both. thanks, again, Ken! i've got a few more to download... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Apr 2006 14:57:42 -0700 From: Kenneth Lee Subject: Re: [support-system] Re: support-system-digest V9 #35 At 10:36 AM 4/16/2006, you wrote: >Isn't it possible that Head On is another name for Slave/Sometimes a Dream? >She cribs liberally from the Pixies/Jesus & Mary Chain's Head On in that song... Girly Sound! In case you didn't know... The "shadoobie, shatter, shatter" chorus in "Shatter" was taken from The Rolling Stones' "Shattered" (from their "Some Girls" album). Another Liz / Rolling Stones connection. ("Don't mind the maggots" is also from "Shattered"). - -Ken kenmlee@ix.netcom.com MeSmErIzInG - AnOtHeR LiZ PhAiR WeBsItE http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/2471/ At 05:10 AM 4/10/2006, you wrote: >Don't mind the maggots... > >-----Original Message----- >From: owner-support-system@smoe.org >[mailto:owner-support-system@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Kenneth Lee >Sent: Saturday, April 08, 2006 4:38 PM >To: support-system@smoe.org >Subject: [support-system] Shadoobie?
