It's not the stinging Judas kiss to old fans that her last album was, but no miracle either. The once soul-baring Liz continues to devolve into the new chick in group analysis who won't share. The frankest confessional here is when she masquerades as an alcoholic old man. Sure, making the car commercial sounds that keep A&R men moist requires writing some concessions, like playing footsie with Lindsay Lohan's collaborator, yet in a bland taste test, two of biggest yawns here were written by Liz herself. I have never heard that Shaggy song, but that chorus is definitely not something he or janet jackson wrote. It is from a popular song from a 70s R&B band--the same one that did the Car Wash song, I think. The chorus has been used or sampled in many other songs. it was the center of the popular early 90s rap song "Knockin' da Boots" by Candyman. I don't know for sure, but I doubt that Liz is referencing the Shaggy song by writing her chorus to the tune of a song that was popular when she was growing up. "Got My Own Thing" is one of the only songs on the new album that jumped out at me right away because it is so gimmicky (and i mean that in a good way.) >ooh, boy >i love you so >never ever ever gonna let you go >once i get my hands on you >- - Shaggy and Janet Jackson > >YIKES!!!! ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V8 #154 ************************************
