I see myself listening to SM more than I would with LP. It's different, fresh, and it's the new Liz. I honestly would buy this CD as a gift to anyone to introduce them to her. Liz may not be making more EIGs, but she's still Liz. She's just growing like everyone else. Btw, did anyone sense any Stevie Nicks influence on their first listen? I guess most of them don't like it much. I gave it a quick listen yesterday - didn't buy it yet, just streamed it from the aol listening party. I'm pissed about Can't Get Out - I was hoping it would be on the album I was going to buy. I wanted to buy the actual album this time instead of doing itunes- now i'm not sure what to do. I definitely need to listen at least 10 more times before I come to any conclusions. It seems though as if this list likes it way better then the critics. Thats pretty interesting since we're usually the harshest critics of them all. Regardless of the album, the last show I saw at the Swedish American Music Hall redeemed everything - she was so amazing that its hard to dislike her. As much as I disliked Liz Phair (or most of it at least), I still love her. I can't help it! she's got a hold on me. and for that, I hope this album does well for her. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Oct 2005 10:50:44 -0400 (EDT) From: creeksidedls@mindspring.com Subject: [support-system] 9:30 Club show If anyone on the list still needs a ticket for the show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, drop me an e-mail and I probably will make you an offer you won't refuse. creeksidedls@mindspring.com Doug ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Oct 2005 23:30:08 -0500 From: Tyler Coates Subject: Re: [support-system] Can't Get Out... I saw that Closer To You was on the album that Amazon.comlisted. The advanced copies all have Can't Get Out, and Liz even said during the tour that Closer to You didn't make it on the album. I can only assume that Can't Get Out was scrapped to keep from getting a Parental Advisory sticker. Tyler On 10/4/05, David Bicking wrote: > > I just bought the album. She enlisted the mainstream hand of producing trio The Matrix (Avril Lavigne, Hilary Duff), but only had the moderate hit single "Why Can't I". With her fifth album "Somebody's Miracle", Phair dropped The Matrix while making yet another pop record: less blatantly commercial, but still smooth, reflecting her increasing shift toward a clearer sound. Phair's guitarist John Alagia produced most of "Miracle"'s acoustic-electric tunes, with boyfriend and bandmate Dino Meneghin also producing. Songs range from the Sheryl Crow-esque single "Everything to Me" to the love-lost "Count On My Love". Awash in spangly tones, they're more about introspection than head bopping, unlike "Liz Phair". The lyrically strong downer "Table for One", for instance, is impressive for its stark imagery of a middle-aged woman in crisis. "I'm backing out of the driveway and into creation," Phair sings. Directly influenced by Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the Key of Life", "Miracle" references an adult-minded tone. She's a mother, she's older, she's in love. Her former crackling monotone doesn't quite soar as much as glide. And true, Phair is not the same indie chanteuse who spat and shocked her way through 1993's dirty debut "Exile in Guyville", but she can still nail you with a major chord or splintered word. ***** From Salt Lake City Weekly: (http://www.slweekly.com/editorial/2005/cdrv_2005-10-06.cfm) CD Revue by Bill Frost LIZ PHAIR "Somebodys Miracle" ** Now that shes over Avril Lavigne (remember her?), ex-indie queen Liz Phair wants to be the new Jewel?
