I love it!!! MY top three today are Table for One, Why I Lie, and Got My Own Thing. It is so different...very classic rock, really. The only song that I just can't listen to is "Count on my Love"...but that's what the skip button is for. :P - -----Original Message----- From: owner-support-system@smoe.org [mailto:owner-support-system@smoe.org] On Behalf Of LilRussianGirl@aol.com Sent: Saturday, September 17, 2005 2:15 PM To: support-system@smoe.org Subject: Re: [support-system] new album Does anyone else have this album yet? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Sep 2005 16:50:06 -0400 From: Jase Subject: Re: [support-system] new album LilRussianGirl@aol.com wrote: >Does anyone else have this album yet? *** SPOILER SPACE *** I do. I haven't had a chance to listen to it enough yet to form a complete opinion about it, but I do like it a lot more than the last album. A few of the songs feel like they would have fit well on _whitechocolatespaceegg_, although this album lacks that one's variety. _Somebody's Miracle_ is largely midtempo, more of a mood piece. So far, I really love "Leap of Innocence," "Got My Own Thing," "Lazy Dreamer," "Table for One," and "Everything (Between Us)" (which is absolutely stunning and, by far, my favorite song on the album). I really like the verses and bridge of "Stars and Planets," but find the "We all shine, shine, shine" part rather cloying. The drums and guitar at the beginning of the song almost make up for it, though. Great intro. "Wind and the Mountain" also has the makings of a good song, but goes on about a minute longer than it needs to. The first half of it is great, but it starts to drag towards the end. If anything, that's my biggest quibble about _Somebody's Miracle_ -- because it is Liz's longest album (at 57 minutes), most of the songs are midtempo and a few go on longer than they should, it has a samey quality that makes me feel a little restless at times while listening to it. I feel like this could have been easily avoided, if either by making a couple of the songs a little shorter, sequencing the tracks to flow better (or breaking up the slower stretches more effectively), or even leaving off one or two of the weaker songs. The other thing that sort of bothers me about the sequencing is having "Can't Get Out of What I'm Into" positioned in between "Everything to Me" and "Table for One." Does anyone else find the transitions between those songs to be a little jarring and awkward? That said, I've only listened to it a handful of times and I'm allowing for the fact that those things might not bother me as much after a few more plays. The Promosquad songs are still my least favorite of the bunch, but I'll admit they work better in the context of the album. There isn't the "Is that all there is?" feeling that I had when I first heard those five clips, because quite often they're sequenced between some of the album's best songs. I've even warmed up somewhat to "Lost Tonight" and "Giving it All to You," although "Somebody's Miracle" and "Everything to Me" are still a little too adult contemporary for me. They're pleasant enough, but they sound faceless and anonymous. The only song I outright dislike is "Count on My Love." It sounds the most like the Matrix tracks off the last album, but seems glaringly out of place on this one. I could see it being a huge radio single, though, which might be something Capitol is counting on. Myself, I'm pondering burning a copy of the album where I replace this track with the "Mother's Little Helper" cover, which is terrific. Overall, I'd say this album is a vast improvement over the self-titled. I'll be very happy if Liz can continue this trend -- shorter waits between albums, with each new record better than the one before it. Here's hoping... It's just that it's killing me to not talk about this. I am in love with this album. It hasn't left my player since I got it. ************************************** I think Count on my Love should have been the single. Very Hillary Duff. I can hear that on the radio. Better radio song than Somebody's Miracle or Everything to Me. Got my Own Thing and Why I Lie are my favorites right now too. But every day I discover something new I love about some other song. It's like the 1st time I got my hands on old Liz stuff - the GS or EIG - I just want to hear it over and over and dissect all of it. Maybe once it's out this list will come back to life like the old days..... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Sep 2005 21:52:33 EDT From: LilRussianGirl@aol.com Subject: Re: [support-system] Madonna photo & EIG _http://home.madonna.com/_ (http://home.madonna.com/) Let it play through - at the end - where have we seen that pose before? I'm underwhelmed. I've only listened to it a couple of times but so far it sounds maybe a hair smarter than the latest meredith brooks/faith hill/jennifer love hewitt etc. i am really looking forward to liz aging into her celine dionne/bonnie tyler power ballad phase. at least that will be funny. if anyone's having trouble finding the album online, email me; i'll give you the link i used. > > Date: Sat, 17 Sep 2005 17:15:04 EDT > From: LilRussianGirl@aol.com > Subject: Re: [support-system] new album > > Does anyone else have this album yet? > > ------------------------------ > > End of support-system-digest V8 #116 > ************************************ Tired of spam?
