Emil, just because Liz didn't intend it that way doesn't mean it isn't one.  
Whatever meaning you extract from it is the right one. It's to Liz's credit 
that  she writes songs with a very specific meaning that listeners can take and 
make  their own without having to change a single lyric. Nearly all the songs 
on the  first three records have pretty murky messages. I know Nashville is  
supposedly about her relationship to EIG, and in that respect it is a love 
song.  I think her love/hate relationship with that record is as perfect an 
analogy to  real physical relationships as anything I can think of. That's my take 
on it  anyway.
