There are two large pictures each of 4-5 artists (also Jason Mraz, Joss Stone, and a few similar others). One picture just has the artists name, but the other has their favorite song. Liz' was "Cheek to Cheek" or something like that and I can't remember the artist for some reason this morning. My utmost apologies for not having the whole thing, but hopefully someone else saw it as well and will correct me. Who knows if she'll be in more, but its a start I guess. At least it almost made it worth it to be pulled through the mall on Saturday. It plays 16 seconds in and thne freezes up. I've tried real player, windows player, and quicktime, both at home (DSL) and at work (T1 line) on three separate days. I'm a registered member and I think I'm getting points each time I try, but I can't watch it. Is anyone else having this problem??? - -----Original Message----- From: Christine Hademan To: Lazzaro9@aol.com; support-system@smoe.org Sent: Sat, 23 Jul 2005 15:34:48 -0700 Subject: RE: [support-system] Re: support-system-digest V8 #79 It is here: http://guyville.lizphair.com/guyville/ That is a link to join Guyville. I saw Liz at Lollapalooza. He set was shorter than I think it was supposed to be-about 45 minutes. Like the reviewer said, two songs from the new album. It was ok, but not the great Liz Phair Experience of years past. I love Liz, but I got in free and left glad that I hadn't paid to see her show. I would have been disappointed. As it was I felt somewhat ripped off. Maybe it's me, maybe I just don't care anymore-or maybe I'm just getting used to being disappointed by her. At the end of the set she played divorce song and went right into flower. She had this look on her face when she started it like "yeah this will shock them" -or rock them - like an evil child who is knowingly about to do something that she knows will really shock and piss her parents off. But it didn't really have that effect. And most of the crowd around me acted like they'd never heard flower before - amused by it - what did she just say? Is that a song? What song is that? Even creepier - there were two really old- I mean like in their eighties old - guys standing near me that had on khaki docker type pants, polo shirts, old guy shoes and old guy sunglasses who were grinning like crazy at each other and Liz though the whole thing. eewww. I don't want to go to a Liz show with grandpas who listen to flower and get all happy. Yuck. She had her hair pulled back, a simple top and some kind of jean skirt or jean shorts on and talked about how much she likes her new fold up guitar because "sorry guys - but it's lighter" and she can take it out and play it on the plane. She seems really comfortable and her vocals are great. But I had to wonder what she thought, the crowd and cheers were mediocre for her, the next set was on the next stage over from her - I think for Dashboard Confessional - and there was a huge crowd that went nuts when they went on. People cleared out when she headed to leave the stage - not a huge outcry for her to play her last 15 minutes as an encore. The whole thing seemed apropos of her career right now - just not what I think any of us wanted for her or what she wanted for her. Her "new" fans are fickle and her old fans are annoyed- both old and new don't seem to care. An ok show, but somewhat disappointing. It feels like she's just going through the motions. I've seen her perform where she FELT the songs. Saturday she just played and sang the songs- as if she could have been performing row row row your boat. And Dino(?) next to her hopping up and down like he's rocking out hard to songs he just learned... She's not the same and I don't want another EIG, but I truly believe she's more talented and original - at the very least lyrically - than the performace she gave or the new stuff about to be released. And I think she's got the tools now (better vocals, no stage fright, corporate backing, some name recognition) that she really could do well if she were more true to herself and her talent. So- is it better to be "heard of" by loads of people for WCI - played in movies, at Bennigans and baseball stadiums, or respected and loved by a smaller group of fans and your artistic peers? Could she fix things now even if she wanted to? ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V8 #82 ***********************************
