Everyone is in such a bad temper! It must be because Liz Phair has become an asshole and a moron. While it is sad, I also think she's a pretty fascinating case study. i hope she goes on The Surreal Life soon. That would be so fun. Anyway, to the person inquiring about the Birchmere, they have like a cabaret set-up there. not only is it sit down, but they serve food! like dinner theater! it can be a drag to have to listen to a bunch of yuppies chew on a leg 'o lamb while you're trying to watch a show, but in the case of liz phair it probably will not make much of a difference. plus, the table service is kind of nice if you don't mind spending ten bucks per beer. if i were you, though, i'd smuggle in a forty. it might be neccessary to be hammered for this performance. sorry if this question has already been answered; i'm on the digest. finally, since i am posting anyway, a bit of off-topic self-promotion. my first novel, LULU DARK CAN SEE THROUGH WALLS, came out a couple of weeks ago and everyone should really buy it. it's very trashy and it's for 13 year old girls. this is not legitimate literature we're talking about. the good news is it's kind of cute and only $10 for a hardcover! what an amazing price point. buy it! commercial over. The tickets > were general admission, but my friend is convinced it will be a > sit-down event. Does anyone have any idea? I've been to the Birchmere about a zillion times. They have two rooms, one which they use most often (which is seated), and another, bigger one called "The Bandstand". Bandstand shows are always stated as such on the web site. Those shows are *usually* standing only, but sometimes seated (again, they mention this on the site). The Phair show doesn't seem to be advertised as a Bandstand show, so it's most likely going to be in the regular room (on very rare occasions, a show will sell so well that it will be moved into the Bandstand, but the only band I know that's happened to was Train). In other words, seated. HOWEVER. It's not seated like a theatre, it's seated in tables, which means that some of the seats are set up to have your back to the stage. That's never been a problem for me, because you can always turn your chair around, and to be honest, I've never had a bad seat there. The other thing is: the Birchmere sells dinner too (the food is decent but generic and generally costs in the $10-$15 range), so if you're really concerned about seats, go right when the doors open and kill time by eating dinner or dessert. Um, sorry for all the info - I guess it's obvious that I go to a lot of concerts. If anyone has any other questions about venues in the greater DC/Baltimore area, feel free to ask. Catherine. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jun 2005 09:03:20 -0700 From: "dana polachowski" Subject: [support-system] it's one more night in hollywood.... > Your argument would be more compelling if your taste in music didn't suck. whoa, you really got me.... ouch. whatever, because (a) you still don't get the point and (b) i bet you don't even really know who pinback are. as for louis XIV, if anyone wants to read something funny, check out the review on pitchfork. i disagree completely with the content, but the writing is pretty entertaining. last, hilarious post, but full of foreboding: > A post on Phair's own website also confirms the previously reported rumor of a September release for the disc, although a firm date has yet to be pinned down. Producer John Alagia (John Mayer, Jason Mraz) and engineer Brian Scheuble are also said to be helming the board for this LP, which leaves Phair one step away from a Santana collaboration and a dread-lust Adam Duritz affair. Fuck fuck fuck. > i guess it makes sense tho, if this guy has worked with mraz and mayer. does anyone know if she's at the make-or-break point? if this tanks, is she done? (god knows we don't want that, but the way the biz is going, i'm surprised capitol, or any label, is still around. they're quick to hand out the pink slips these days.) toodles, dp ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jun 2005 10:17:01 -0700 (PDT) From: thirteen bees Subject: [support-system] Joe's Pub tix Yeah, if anyone has an extra ticket (or two) for either of the Joe's Pub dates, I would love to buy it. I'd just gather up my eight favorite CDs, move to a desert island and cut myself off from the rest of the world with those few CDs on repeat and a closed mind to anything that differs. oh well - i'm off to check out 50 Foot Wave, at James' suggestion. laters, dan ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jun 2005 20:45:11 +0000 From: "Katie Brown" Subject: [none] >>>*scratching head* (How the f*ck can you not like Beck?)<<< Seriously...
