Clear proof that there is a BROAD range of musical tastes on this list, as these are about the last things I'd listen to, even if stranded on a desert island. No wonder Liz has a tough time striking a chord in her audience... Well..I'm not much of a dave matthews fan...but i think the new Beck album is excellent. the song Girl is like....THE best summer song - EVER! my "summer must-haves" are.... scout niblett - kidnapped by neptune dressy bessy - electrified oliva tremor control - dusk at cubist castle mary timony - ex hex (i was a late bloomer with this band!) and i'm in love with the live Lucinda Williams album...it's great for lip-syncing and pretending it's YOU who is singing the songs, complete with audience cheers. FAAN-TASTIC. I'm also re-discovering Laurie Anderson's Big Science collection from her big show America I-IV. my aunt used to love Laurie Anderson when i was a kid and i was always like "eww...too weird - don't get it." but now - woo hooo!!! Let X=X is such a fantastic song...blows my mind. and - i have recently re-adjusted my ears to the "love-liz-no-matter-what" setting. it's different, not the same - but fuck it. if i can tap my foot to lindsay lohan - i can TRY to appreciate liz's ...."new" sound. i'm going to treat liz as if she were my gay daughter. Hate the sin. love the sinner. TOTALLY KIDDING!!! dan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jun 2005 10:26:39 -0700 From: "dana polachowski" Subject: [support-system] what do YOU mean...? > Subject: Re: [support-system] what do you mean you don't have these yet? > > Yikes. 'cause broad taste isn't a bad thing, bro'.... and as far as liz not "striking a chord," that doesn't make any sense, either. we're the "converted." we're all she has, man. in fact, if weren't for the fact that we all possess an affinity for a wide range of music/styles/voices/stuff off the beaten path, she wouldn't have an audience at all. or *ever*. and if you're referring to her recent chart struggles, i'm gonna chalk that up to her lyric-writing skills (at the very least) being in the crapper. nice try, though. frankly, i'd really like to hear about what other people are listening to and what's exciting to them right now. as for me, i'm gonna recommend a local band (for me): louis XIV (the best little secrets are kept). oh, and pinback (summer in abbadon). i'm really happy for them; they've been around for awhile, retooled their sound, and are selling/out playing. good for them! over and out, dp ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jun 2005 20:44:44 EDT From: TitleTK@aol.com Subject: [support-system] Off Topic: 50 Foot Wave Since we're recommending music . . . have you all heard 50 Foot Wave? It's Kristin Hersh's new band and absolutely mind-blowing. I'm not a big fan of Kristin's solo work or Throwing Muses, but this is hands down the greatest band I've heard in forever. They have a self-titled EP as well as a full-length album called Golden Ocean. They are also touring like crazy. Please check them out, Kristin is one of the few artists left with complete integrity who also happens to be making some of the best music out there.
