(this is probably why it didn't make it; the whole thing is too big) anyway, it's good to see comments on here again. oh, yeah, the article was relevant because i'm pretty sure liz's strategy is no doubt to have her tunes included in movie soundtracks (specifically chick-flicks). the music industry in the U.S. is headed in that direction, it's well on its way, and the chinese are way ahead of us. whereby musicians make money on touring and endorsement deals and make nothing on CDs and there is no "illegal downloading." they even sell pirated CDs in stores. in fact, it's pretty much all pirated. we're more than halfway there already, so.... seriously i'm gonna start looking for chinese web sites and see what's going on. i mean, what the hell.... so, yay, she's still all pop; the real question is is there gonna be an EP with more old-style stuff? that's all i care about. but i'm betting she couldn't give a rat's ass about the diehards anymore.... no olive branch this time. anyone? anyone? bueller....? dp ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 May 2005 09:02:09 -0400 From: Meredith Robbins Subject: [support-system] When I was 12 at summer camp... Hi, boys and girls... I don't even know if this message will go through, because I think the address I'm subscribed from is still my ancient Columbia e-mail, which now just acts as a forwarding address. Hopefully using that e-mail as my return address will let this go through. It's also been so long since I posted anything to the list (years, easily) that I think I may have forgotten how. But I shall endeavor. Anyway. I wasn't able to listen to the new songs, because I can't unzip the MP3s with my Mac, and I just don't care enough to sit through that stupid jukebox thing. I still hate the previous album, despite my concerted efforts to find some redeeming value in it, so I'm guessing I'm going to hate this one even more. I'm inured now, though, so it's not as dismaying as it was when the last album came out. I mean, it's not like I'm surprised. Disappointed, yes; annoyed, certainly; but shocked, no. Even the song titles are pat, predictable, and silly. Bleh. Bleh to the max. I was shamefacedly perusing US Weekly this week, and I was mildly amused to find an article on a charity event hosted by Julia Roberts and Paul Newman in which Julia Roberts mused on her life-changing experiences as a child at summer camp. I abandoned my copy of the magazine on the subway platform as soon as I finished reading it -- God forbid one of my insufferable Williamsburg hipster acquaintances see me with US in hand! -- but you should check it out if you're retarded like me. There's also a riveting feature on the "American Idol" judges' dressing rooms that I think you'll find most rewarding. Did you know that the Mars Company donated color-coordinated M&Ms to match each dressing room? It's true! Well, I'll talk to you guys in another five years...
