IMO, this digest began it's slow death with LP's S/T release. when she chose to abandon her hardcore fans, it only accomplished one thing; SHE BECAME DISPOSABLE, just like all other pop/rock stars she aspires to. she became something that people just chewed up and spit out instead of the delicious morsel that needed to be digested for an extended period of time. This is how far liz has fallen. she went from one of the most influential artists in music in the 90's to a complete joke. i recently watched an episode of one of my guilty pleasures pax tv's "america's most talented kids" (http://www.paxtv.com/shows/msttlkid/) starring the great dave coulier. this talent show includes judges bobb'e j. thompson (the tracy morgan show), darryl sabara (spy kids), and scarlett pomers (reba). scarlett is following in the footsteps of great artists like ashlee simpson, hillary duff, and lindsey lohan, in which a child pseudo-star wears two hats by acting and playing rock star. well, in this recent episode that i watched, coulier interviewed the 3 judges and scarlett mentioned that "she and her band are working with producers that have worked with avril levigne and liz phair called the matrix". my heart just sank. one of my former hero's is performing the same type of songs as scarlet pomers (and avril, for that matter)? it saddens me that i'm embarassed for liz. i hate, hate, hate her new persona. i hate, hate, hate the liz phair cd cover with her guitar posing as a "backslash" (liz, a backslash goes from the upper left corner to bottom right). why can't she just admit that her new "team" wanted her half naked on the cover with a guitar covering her privates to sell records to horny teenaged boys? call a spade a spade, liz! i hate, hate, hate that i was so excited for the then titled "...an evening with" with the release of the "down" video, only to have the carpet pulled from under me with the crap on LP. i feel cheated and betrayed. it has come to the point where whenever i hear EIG, WS, or even WCSE, i almost feel angry that i have witnessed one of the most colossal PR failures in music history (maybe second only to KISS w/o makeup). whew! that felt good to get that off my chest. hopefully, liz will come to her senses and produce records again with heart. am i the only one out there that feels the same way? judging by the activity on this list, something tells me that i'm not. And our guy at Capitol is busy redesigning the official Liz website, so it looks like we will get a new Liz album this year. - -Ken kenmlee@ix.netcom.com MeSmErIzInG - AnOtHeR LiZ PhAiR WeBsItE http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/2471/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Mar 2005 20:10:16 -0800 (PST) From: SHERLY McLACHLAN Subject: [support-system] NEW LIZ I'm stunned!!! Do we know of any other good stuff coming out this year? I'm wondering if she will have any of her old, demo songs on the new album? Still hoping she puts "Blood Keeper" or "Freak Of Nature" on her new album. There will be a new albums by Garbage & Mary Timony that is coming out both I believe on the same day in April. Garbage went back to their old label Geffen & Mary went from Matador to now Lookout Records. -cana- ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V8 #18 ***********************************
