In March of this year I had a reunion of sorts -- and we all agreed to bring a CD with the music we are currently listening too / favorites. (There was a rule that no music could be from the 80's or before -- that was somewhat ignored.) Here is what I put on my contribution: TITLE ARTIST ALBUM Written by Love'Hate Transmission / Liz Phair / Liz Phair / Liz Phair - -- I didn't think they guys werer Liz fans (and I was right) I figured I'd introduce them to her with this because of its very WHO-like percussion. Crystal Ship / X (with Ray Manzarek) / X-Files The Movie Soundtrack / Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore Robby Krieger - -- Included to skirt the no-pre80's rule; many of us are Doors fans Extraordinary / Liz Phair / Liz Phair / Liz Phair - -- just reinforcement, in case they listen to the radio So Far Away / Dire Straits / Brothers in Arms / Mark Knopfler - -- I just like his guitar style Walking After You / Foo Fighters / X-Files Fight The Future (Movie Soundtrack) / Dave Grohl - -- OK, I've been melancholy this year (it gets worse as we get into the play list) Tantum Ergo / Charlotte Church / Prelude - Best of Charlotte Church / Text: Thomas Aquinas - -- I have eclectic interests in music, regardless of the hype a beatiful voice Stoned / Dido / Life For Rent - -- A bit of a tech transition from opera (back to melancholy) Two Doors Down / Me'Shell N'Degeocello / Just Because I'm a Woman: The Songs of Dolly Parton / Dolly Parton - -- Excellent version of this Dolly song; smoky beat and husky voice You're not the one (Metro Mix) / Daniel Bedingfield / Gotta Get Thru This {Lo (Compilation)} / Daniel Bedingfield - -- I wanted more techno sound, but couldn't bring myself to include UFO; The only piece I have of his, not sure why I have it at all Inside Your Painting / Patty Larkin / Red = Luck / Patty Larkin - -- Stunning performer, went to 4 performances this year ... incredible solo performer; I think I can use guitar virtuoso. I Will / Alison Kraus / Now That I've Found You / Lennon/McCartney - -- I've moved from Rock to Blue Grass / Old Timey this century; not much of her characteristic fiddlin' but a pleasant voice (I'm partial to Iris Dement, so there you go). Tears / Chet Atkins & Mark Knopfler / Neck And Neck / Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli - -- RIP Chet, great collaboration from a few years ago In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening / Bette Midler / Bette Midler sings Rosemary Clooney / Hoagy Carmichael ... Co-writer: Johnny Mercer - -- Hey, it was a reunion event so the song fit the theme I thought. Liz borrowed a signature Stratocaster from Trent Reznor, who is recording a new Nine Inch Nails album there as well, for one of her tracks. Other folks recording at The Village at the moment include Oasis, Billy Corgan and Courtney Love. A good sign is the fact that Liz is playing guitar during the recording sessions...
