I mean, I still enjoy listening to the self-titled album...just in a VERY different way than all her other albums. it's cool...it just doesn't blow my mind. either this will be looked at as a "pop concept album" five years down the road, or this will be looked at as "the album where we lost liz". if she goes back to writing more interesting, less fluffy songs - i'll look back and smile on this album. it's cute..but if this is an indicator of the direction she is moving, musically...what a waste. regardless of how "fun" the new album is, you only have to pop in the Comeandgetit EP to know Liz is capable of doing much better. p.s. - saw Ben Lee in Ferndale MI a few nights back at the Magic Bag...about 30 people were there - that's it. He invited all of us to sit up on stage with him, took requests from everyone (and played almost all of them) and even sang Away With the Pixies. sort of reminded me of the first time I saw Liz live...no one there, quiet audience between songs...his geeky jokes...you could hear a pin drop..it was fucking awesome. dan Mark J. Has anybody else thought about how depressing it is that, after all is said and done, Liz Phair will likely end up being an artist most notable (in non music elitist minds) for such vapid crap as "Why Can't I"? ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V7 #163 ************************************
