It is the first time Tiffany & Co. has designed a commemorative necklace for a marathon. The Nike 26.2 is inspired by the 20th anniversary of Joan Benoit Samuelsons historic win in 1984 in Los Angeles. Benoit Samuelson is serving as race ambassador and will participate in the marathon. This race will be an annual event and is the first Nike marathon in the United States for women runners and walkers of all ages. As if there werent enough reasons to do the Nike 26.2 with it being in beautiful San Francisco and benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, we thought wed add a few more incentives to really make the event unique, said, Kellie Leonard of Nike. Liz Phair is an exciting addition to the activities surrounding the Nike 26.2 race weekend and runners will really be in the mood to celebrate their race finish at her concert. We also all knew that a little blue box from Tiffanys would create some excitement and probably help improve everyones time as they race to the finish line to get their commemorative Nike 26.2 necklace, said Leonard. The Nike 26.2 will be a weekend-long celebration. Events and activities include a race Expotique at Union Square featuring fitness consultations and demonstrations, Macys fashion shows and complimentary spa services open to both registered runners and the general public. - - more - Nike 26.2 Liz Phair and Tiffany & Co. necklace Page 2 Both the marathon and half marathon will start and finish on the Great Highway outside Golden Gate Park and will run through the city of San Francisco ending along Ocean Beach, allowing runners and walkers to enjoy both the city and the coast line during the race. I had VIP passes, so I got there around 4:30 and I got to do all sorts of stuff. Various sound checks were done for the bands. Liz's band came on and the-guy-she's-dating sang various lyrics to Liz's songs as they played around a bit. Liz came out and they did a real sound check where she was checking stuff out and joking around. She pointed out how, on the screens they have, her one guitar looked as big as her (its probably almost is). They played a couple of songs. After that she came off the stage and went out in front of the place to chat, take pictures, and sign stuff. I got my Whip Smart signed and she signed everyone's laminated VIP passes. I got some pics taken with her which was cool. We chatted about stuff, and I wished I'd asked her what she was doing after the tour! Uggggh!! Damn my lousy "duh, you're Liz..." brain... Charlotte what's-her-face went on and it was like being at a Tori Amos concert, but without the piano skill and emotion. It was just bizarre watching her play because it looked like she was trying to sing/play/physically move like Tori. I couldn't tell if people were actually cheering for her or being sarcastic. Katy Rose played and was actually not too bad, though not really anything special either. The Cardigans were pretty rocking. They got to play for about 45 minutes and they did an impressive job. I enjoyed their set. Liz didn't go on until about 10:45 and the set she played was very similar to what she played on tour a few months ago. I didn't bother to keep track because there were no songs she played that I did not hear her play last time. But they did a good job, the sound was good, everything was good. If anything, they seemed like the band might have been a little on the tired side. In all honesty, so was I. I didn't stick around for the encore as her set ended close to midnight. As a VIP person, I got to talk a lot with the Maybelline representative guys who have been traveling with the tour. They spoke highly of all the bands as people. They seemed impressed with the way Liz devotes time to her fans "just talking" and that kind of thing. They also talked about the bus arrangements a bit. How on the tour busses there's a lounge in the front, one in the back, and bunks in the middle, but on Liz's bus she gets the whole back lounge to herself. Go Liz. That was all the interesting stuff, if it was even that. Wonder when she'll roll on in to town again... ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V7 #154 ************************************
