She loves the song Why Can't I. I just shook my head in disbelief. I assume her parents have not bought her the cd since that is the only song she knows and loves. What if she wanted the cd and her parents had no idea about the song HWC? I'm sure its happened. Is there a censored version of Liz Phair that stores such as wallmart sell? Somehow the idea of me loving the same musician as an 8yr old pissed me off. so weird ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 2004 12:44:18 EDT From: SSonic40@aol.com Subject: Re: [support-system] Re: support-system-digest V7 #131 Hey Everybody, I see tons of posts discussing Liz's image, her fanbase, her viability as a legitimate artist, album sales, her shift in musical style and the effect it's had on how she's perceived by fellow musicians, consumers and folks in the entertainment industry, concert production, show attendance (in regards to cancellations). I've also seen far too many posts along the lines of "somehow the idea of me loving the same musician as an 8yr old pissed me off" (and other such posts voicing disapproval, sadness and even anger about where Liz's sound is headed, how her fan base has expanded to include admittedly annoying bandwagon-type, trendy "fans"). I can understand the frustration to some extent, but in the end, does any of that junk really matter? When did we get to the point where just liking Liz Phair and her music wasn't enough? I like EIG and I like her new stuff, too. That's enough for me. I don't care how many albums she sells, that teeny-boppers are listening to her, that critics can't stand the moves she makes, that her management is horrible and would release songs like "Rock Me" as commercial singles, that she worked with The Matrix, etc. Is there any chance this list can get positive despite the adversity Liz has faced over the past year; that we can stop wallowing in the negatives and just enjoy an artist who, no matter what anybody says, has remained true to herself and the goals she wants to accomplish for herself while still creating totally unique music (albeit with a more mainstream feel)? Come on, everybody. There's just no need to waste time on posts about eight year olds, bad reviews and out-in-out whining. That's just my opinion. I hope I don't offend anybody. The point of this message is to shine some light on things and remind you all why we're a part of this list in the first place. I say down with the "oh, how I long for the days of 'EIG'" e-mails. That was a decade ago - the only constant in life is change. Live in the now. Personally, I like a ton of the unreleased b-sides Liz has done. There's good and bad in everything. Let's focus on the good and say screw the rest. No need to add credibility to negative critics, stoop to the level of Britney-Justin cultists or worry about unimportant non-music BS. Take care and have a wonderful weekend! ~B ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V7 #132 ************************************
