Still have the Philly show to check out next week tho. Hopefully they'll have some. To sum up The Towson show: price of ticket: $25 hours to get there: 5 hours to wait outside the theatre: 3.5 seeing Liz say It's hot and whip off her shirt midet: priceless Apparently they had some bet going on that whoever did the craziest thing won $100. But she said that the bass player who jumped off the stage, put his bass on barrier railing (damn near right in front of me!) and played it was the winner. Great show. Tons of energy! Liz and the entire band seemed to be having so much fun. And being front row with tons of eye contact with Liz and lots of flirting with the bass player meant I had a blast too. For all you fashionistas out there, she wore faded low-rise jeans, funky tennis shoes and a cropped v-neck sweater (pink, yellow, white, and maybe some other color striped). And underneath the aforementioned whipped-off sweater was a shiny pink satin underwire bra. And talk about buff. The woman has a 6-pack going on. ok enough about that. Don't know the setlist in order, but this is what i remember her playing. Flower 6'1" Help Me Mary Divorce Song Supernova Chopsticks Never Said Johnny Feelgood Polyester Bride Uncle Alvarez Extraordinary Red Light Fever Why Can't I My Favorite Underwear (came soon after she stripped to her bra - she said something like- well i guess this next song is appropriate) Love/Hate Bionic Eyes Hurricane Cindy Encore: Mesmerizing Fuck and Run H.W.C. OH yeah opening acts were Rachel Yamagata with Cameron McGill (the Johnny Depp look-alike - he introduced them saying "Im Benny and this is Joon" She has one hell of a voice even though she had the flu. She is really funny and interacts great with the crowd. And Wheat. What can I say? They were better than Columbus last year, but they still suck. That lead singer is really creepy. And thanks to Vinny for having the extra ticket, keeping me company and saving my spot in line. Kim Waited after the show, but she didn't come out. Bummer. Okay though cause I forgot to take anything for her to sign. Hopefully I'll get to meet her in Philly. _________________________________________________________________ Check out MSN PC Safety & Security to help ensure your PC is protected and safe. http://specials.msn.com/msn/security.asp ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 16:31:22 -0800 (PST) From: Easter Subject: [support-system] Re: set list Paul, Here's what she played at the Orlando show. We made the 5.5 hour drive from Asheville to Myrtle Beach. This lineup was Rachel Yamagata/Wheat/Liz Phair. We stayed at the Courtyard Marriot hoping it was Lizs' hotel (actually she was at the Hilton as we found out later). But we were in the same hotel as the opening act (Rachel Yamagata). We caught up with Rachels guitarist Cameron Mcgill and picked his brain and he said Liz is signing/meeting/greeting fans for only about 1 in 5 shows. We staked out the HOB and hung at the bar but Liz never made an appearance outside of the amphitheater. HOB is very strict on NO cameras in the venue but we did manage to get a shot of her tour bus in the back- it's big, bright deep blue, smoked windows and pulling a white u-haul size trailer behind it. First let me comment on the venue. The HOB is the best small concert setting I have ever been to in 30 plus years of concert going. Small, intimate, not a bad seat in the house, easy access, full service bars (4 of 'em!) and if you eat in the restaraunt you get in ahead of the gen adm line by about 15-20 mins. I don't believe she sold out but there was a good mix of people - hardcore fans and lots of early teens who dragged their mothers/fathers along. We ate, flashed our dinner receipt and got to be 3rd in line. We went by the merch table and I am sad to say that the EP was not available for sale by itself. I had hoped to pick up 12 or so to distribute to fellow listers on here as a suprise but you have to buy a shirt or hat to get 1 EP. At 25 bucks a shirt it was not somethin I could do - my apologies to the list for not being able to pick up more. We immediately grabbed a spot dead center right up front - close enough to touch the stage! Rachel came on first, just her and guitarist Cameron. She was pretty good (nursing a cold/sore throat) and sounds a bit like Leona Naess. Next came Wheat who was pretty good also - sort of Hootie/Spacehog/Weezer-ish. Next came Liz. Now being a guitarist myself, generally I check out the rest of the band to see what I can pick up, what equip they are using, etc and all but I admit I was totally focused on Liz. She came out dressed in long faded blue jeans, a sort of camisole/slip looking light brown/purple top (no bra) and high heels. I must say she looked good even in that. She did use the headset/wireless mike and it worked out well as she was able to move around the stage freely. She had her trademark Fender Musicmaster w/ the star, a Fender Jazzmaster and a Yamaha acoustic and even played piano on one song. Setlist and review to follow.... SET LIST Flower Polyester Bride Rock Me Johnny Feelgood Uncle Alvarez Bionic Eye Divorce Song 6' 1" Chopsticks (Liz solo Piano) Extraordinary Love/Hate Help Me Mary Red Light Fever Never Said Favorite Hurricane Cindy (Liz solo guitar) Why Can't I Supernova - ------- Encore of: Mesmerizing Fuck & Run HWC The band seemed tight and Lizs' voice was strong, clear and in tune. The opening song Flower was a more uptempo/harder version. Uncle Alvarez was also not done acoustically but more rocked up. Liz gave the audience a choice of Hurricane Cindy or Stratford-On-Guy and the overwhelming response was for Stratford. She said she was going to play both but then ended up just playing Hurricane Cindy solo (which she sort of messed up halfway thru on the guitar). She had a pretty good dialogue going with the audience throughout the show and encouraged everyone to "not be embarassed" during HWC. Being right up front I got lots of eye contact and of course had a huge smile on my face the whole time. As the techs were breaking down the equipment I stuck my arm out hoping to get a pick or something and holy crap! managed to get HER PERSONAL SET LIST from the roadie! After the encore we stayed up front stage with most of the crowd. We spotted Liz hanging stage left and the crowd cheered and motioned her over to please sign autographs. To our amazement she strolled back out and sat on the end of the stage to sign for us. I managed to get Juvenilia and a promo copy of Whipsmart signed by her and...dig this...had her personalize, sign and correct (hurricane cindy was not on there) the set list to me! We went around back and waited by the tour bus to try to get some photos with her but she came out, apologized to the 20 or so of us out there that she was tired, done signing and she didn't want photos taken. All in all it was an awesome experience for me to see her, get autographs and actually look her in the eye and speak to her. I was on cloud nine all night. A great show, great venue and she was very friendly and looked happy and confident onstage. Oh and we met up with some other fan who gave us a burned copy of her Bonaroo show from last year...haven't listened to it yet but will give a review when I do.......
